the local police are under no obligation to risk their lives for you. but they can stand by and watch you get victimized. if you're lucky, they'll catch the perp AFTER.

1) assuming that the burglar knows how to handle his weapon better than I know how to handle mine is silly, and probably wrong.
2) If there is an armed burglar in my home, my life is already at risk ... being armed myself reduces that risk.
