Excellent!
On second thought, those aren't polka dots...it's a patterned blouse. I was late getting in from the REC meeting. I need to go back and watch the recording now from the beginning.
Nelson's response to Harris' question about Ambassador John Bolton should eliminate him from consideration by sensible Florida voters.
Her question drew out "the REAL Nelson".
OMG, is it over already?
only 44 posts?
More proof that he's unable to generate his own thoughts or ideas.
Nelson is like the hanger-on in a celebrity entourage.
I just heard, via a voice in the wind, that CSPAN will be broadcasting the debate around 10 EST
I heard that too --- I am definitely going to watch!
I was watching in the other room (no computer).
Does anyone else notice a Gore-like quality in Nelson, particularly the way he speaks?
OK, come on, we need more description of what's going on. How's she doing?
Ditto --- how is she doing?
We know he's a bore.
A good observation about Nelson's speech. He is a Yale graduate, but has kept the good ole boy tones and patterns. There was an article in FloridaToday which contrasted the "accents" of the two candidates. Harris is a native Floridian too, but she came from "quality folks" who taught her upper-class ways. Her diction is Standard American. All this may account for the fact that Nelson, who like Gore is very short on accomplishment can still draw many votes from North Florida and the Panhandle.
Excellent description--he is very stiff, slow, and each response is terribly measured, as when Gore informed us "there is no controlling legal authority"...
Gore has a lisp. He should be given great credit for overcoming this speech defect. It is barely noticeable, but pay close attention when he pronounces words beginning in C's and S's. That is why Gore is very careful when speaking. Others who have lisps are Speaker Hastert, Jim Bohannon, and Tom Brokaw. So did Churchill, Humphrey Bogart, and Daniel Webster.
Sorry....I was getting pie and coffee.
I think her first response betrayed a little nervousness. She looked attractive and animated as she moved from behind the podium to reply to the panel's questions.
She illustrated the differences in her record and Nelson's record without being nasty. When the question posed was one about an issue on which she had written legislation, she mentioned it.
Harris was not stumped by questions on Iraq, N. Korea, energy policy, homeowner's insurance, balance of trade with China......she is knowledgeable and able to articulate her position on issues.
When asked about partisanship, she said she has worked with Democrats....in fact, was at one time a Democrat and will work as she always has on behalf of the entire State of Florida.
In her closing statement, she included the issues important to conservatives.....taxes, national security, border security, energy solutions, etc.
That's interesting. I'll look for the article.
I think Nelson's speech oozes condescension.
".....when Gore informed us "there is no controlling legal authority"...
Exactly!
Replay on now on cspan. Nelson is SO SLOW! How did he ever get elected in the first place???
Thank you!
I am watching the replay on c-span.
Ske looks absolutely lovely and ger answers are clear and straightforward.
I guess from his only claim to fame, being an astronaut. When Senator Connie Mack retired, Nelson grabbed his seat.
If I remember correctly, Bill McCollom, current candidate for Attorney General, was the Republican candidate.
