Jerry,
The Help America Vote Act requires states to maintain accurate voter rolls. Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita did a huge effort to purge the rolls, and after an initial postcard mailing found that as many as 1 in 4 registrations may not be accurate (the mail was returned because the person no longer lived there, the address was bad, or for possibly more sinister reasons). They will be purged after a second mailing.
There was an article on Fortwayne.com on 8/2/06 about it. Help is on the way.
From reviewing the voter rolls in our county, after the 2006 Primary Election, I know that there people still listed that have been deceased for as long as 10+ years. There is suppose to be notification by a State agency to the county clerks of those that have died and they are suppose to take those persons off the voter rolls. It isn't being done for some reason. I'm very concerned about this because this will be a very close election. You can believe that once the General Election is over I will be checking to see if any of the deceased have cast a ballot.
