I am sorry that this will sound like an insult, but it's not:

If you think there's no difference between Britain and North Korea, You almost certainly have profound brain damage of some sort. Consult a neurologist immediately.

Good luck with your treatment.

You are now confusing Private Property with the Public Street.

If banks were government run instead of private, would you be able to wear a mask inside them?

going after the veils shouldn't be the target. The things they need to go for broke on is: No child marriages No forced marriages Deportation for anyone doing extreme preaching at mosques. Maximum year sentences for honor killings (anyone in the family involved in it goes on trial as well).

I agree with your list. Banning the veil is like banning long hair back in the Sixties to stop the Weathermen from bombing labs.

You make a good point. Sometimes what some people call "freedom" is just a weight for the rest of us. The Roman Empire colapsed under the weight of some of the "freedoms" we are so quick to grab at today.

If the Muslim men want their women to wear the veil, then the law should be passed that all Muslim men will be forced to wear the veil as well under penalty of deportation! Let's see then how how long it would take for Muslim men to "compromise" on the veil issue!

I'm against banning the veil, but are you really comparing the two, or believing that a ban on hiding one's face would really lead to that? The bride's face can be seen, and she's wearing it in a room where every single person knows who she is anyway.

Comparing the two is like arguing against the South Dakota abortion ban by claiming it would outlaw giving a baby a bath.

Rest assured that muslims, if they get their way, will tell you what you can wear. It will be a burka and you will be beheaded or stoned if you are caught not wearing it. That's just the way it is under shiara law.

Agreed, but what exactly will banning the veil do to harm their cause? It's like banning long hair in the Sixties in the hopes of stopping the Weathermen.

True but I can't see banning it in a free society. It'd be like banning backpacks.

Read the article more closely. "The controversy was underlined by yesterday’s Daily Express revelation that bosses at a medical school have barred Muslim students from wearing the veil. Instead, they must show their faces when talking to patients and in meetings with colleagues.

First, they are referring to full face veils and they are not banning them entirely. It makes perfect sense to me that professors know who their students are and patients know who their doctors are. I assume that you also favor women wearing full face veils for their driver's license picture.

It will do little by itself. It is only a first step towards assimilation into 21st century society. It makes a statement that: No, the West will not change to suit islam; islam must change if it wishes to exist in the West; it partially resends the foolish notion of "multiculturalism." It has the added benefit of discouraging devout muslims from migrating to the West. Some may even return to the middle east with such draconian measures in place.

It has no downsides except that it may anger muslims, but then, what doesn't?

Banning the veil is like banning KKK hoods back in the Sixties to stop the Ku Klux Klan from terrorizing blacks. Many cities and states did just that. Which is why the KKK generally no longer uses a full-face hood at their gatherings. They will be arrested in most places if they do.

Once people could no longer be anonymous at a KKK rally when full-face KKK hoods were banned in a lot of places a significant amount of their support dried up.

If you're wearing a sweatshirt in Miami in July and you have a skinny neck with what appears to be a 200 lbs gut, I may shoot and ask questions later.

How is this analogous to a face veil?

Well, first of all, you're the one who brought in the straw man of banning jackets. Second of all, the scenario above and a person wearing a full face veil both have something to hide which might put myself and those around me in danger.

"So women merely covering their faces is a threat to society? Please get back to me when you have evidence that the veil encourages suicide, drug addiction, sodomy, or whatever..."

Your notion of national threat is very limited, I see. There are many reasons why the Brits should not allow masked women to walk around inside full body suits.
First and foremost, anybody could be inside that paraphenalia, including a male fugitive from justice.
Secondly, such a masked and completely covered person could commit a crime and not have to worry about security cameras to ID them.
Third, from a social standpoint, it's a cultural absurdity to have people we work with and converse with daily of whom we will never see. And not only is it absurd, it's rude.
Fourth, these veils and full head-covernings for women symbolize a horrendously oppressive culture, where women are subjugated, degraded and debased by islamic men.
Fifth; many of Western Europe's indigenous citizens find people walking around with concealed faces to be intimidating, and it raises suspicions and fears in the hearts of people that they could have a bomb or weapon hidden underneath with evil intentions to use them.
Sixth; the full head covering is a bold statement by a large sub-culture of muslim immigrants that they reject European culture and dress customs.
Seventh; The wearing of full head/face coverings is clearly representative of the more radical elements of islam, and is an overt rejection of 'moderate' islam, which allows for muslim women to live without covering their faces and bodies.

In truth the veil in Islam simply oppresses women. Plus it looks something from the middle ages. Ladies, get with the 21st century.

Ha, but that's why my analogy works and your doesn't. Jackets do present a potential threat, yet it would be ridiculous to propose banning them. But how exactly is a face veil threatening? All it's hiding is a face. If your argument is simply that it's hiding a nebulous "something" - that's true of any clothing item.

People aren't identified primarily by their chest (or the body parts covered by a jacket), people are identified by their facial features. That makes a niqab or burka much more disconcerting.

Your insistence on hanging onto straw men will get you burned.
