A properly done relining or patch will fix the hole. Whether or not a blending touch-up or a neutral tone on the damaged area (to show that a repair has been done) is done will depend on the professional art restorer's philosophy.

We've repaired paintings that movers had impaled with a forklift, a child had throw a ball at and an angry ex-wife had knifed. That one was a little scary.

I'll give him $29.99 for it, $49.99 before it was damaged, if the frame's nice.

I did that with this painting, but just shrugged it off.

I don't understand this. He is an old man and he hit it with his elbow and knocked a hole in it? It must have been very fragile. Oil paintings on canvas should not be THAT fragile. Maybe they mean that the paint cracked and came OFF the canvas. If that is what happened, he had let his painting deteriorate to a terrible degree.

Now that I've seen a picture of the "art," I would agree with others that Wynn certainly made an improvement. Somebody should pay him $139 million to burn it. It is a monstrosity and an offense to the eyes.

The accident occurred as a gesturing Wynn, who suffers from retinitis pigmentosa, an eye disease that affects peripheral vision, struck the painting with his right elbow, leaving a hole the size of a silver dollar in the left forearm of Marie-Theresa Walter, Picasso's 21-year-old mistress.

Look up Paul Johnson's (yes, that Paul Johnson's) volume Creators: From Chaucer and Durer to Picasso for a refreshing look at the history of art. It made some noise when it came out a couple of years ago due to Johnson's unorthodox view of the modern period. (He disses Pablo and others.)

Put some ice on that.

Don't know why, but I think this story is hilarious.

Wasn't picasso always adding extra body parts to his pictures, anyway?

Also, the location of the added elbow shouldn't phase any picasso-affectionado.
