Richard Huffman, Fourth Appellate District was appointed by Governor George Deukmejian in October 1988. Prior he was a Judge of the Superior Court for San Diego County since April of 1985.

Apparently he is the former prosecutor who pursued the case against then San Diego Mayor Roger Hedgecock, a case won on jury tampering by a bailiff and ultimately overturned by the CA state supreme court.

A three judge Los Angeles-based 2nd District Court of Appeal has ruled Gov. Schwarzenegger has no authority to deny parole to a 80-something year old MURDERER. Details here

The judges on the panel were Presiding Justice Candace Cooper, Associate Justice Laurence D. Rubin, Associate Justice Paul Boland

(Thanks, calcowgirl!)

All three were appointed by Governor Grey Davis.

Each got over 70% in their 2002 election.

Dear Auntie,
I echo your request for a listing of judicial candidates and a few snippets about their respective philosophies. I also share your reservations about female judges, but coming from me its simply sexist ! Is this another match in the gasoline can? :)

Newzjunkie posted the judges above, but it still doesn't help if you don't know anything about them. I know nothing about any of them and I intend to not vote or vote no on all of them. I wrote a "How to Vote" article once upon a time and here's my section on how to vote for judges:

Voting for judges is extremely important and most of us don't have a clue who these people are and what they stand for. Once a judge is elected, it is almost impossible to get them off the bench and after enough elections, they simply cannot be removed, no matter how bad they are. They usually don't campaign and to most of us they are just a name on a page.

Here's a scary statistic for you: the California Judicial Council (the governing body for judges) has been in existence since 1961. Since it's inception--42 years--guess how many judges have been removed for impropriety? Nine! That's not a typo, in 42 years the governing body for California judges has only seen fit to remove nine judges. These numbers don't lie.

Once a judge, ALWAYS A JUDGE.

If you don't know them, LEAVE IT BLANK or vote no. Let the ones who do know make that important decision. There are ways to educate yourself about judges on the ballot and one of the best ways is to ask a lawyer friend. They are the ones at the courthouse every day and they see the judges in action. If you trust your lawyer friend's judgment take his advice. Again, if you don't know, LEAVE IT BLANK.

Excellent work Newz! Bumping for Southern Californians who still don't know the Judges candidates.

"rogerhedgecock.com" identifies who appointed whom.(who/whom?)

It also links to "www.ss.ca.gov/elections/elections_justice" which gives all the sanitized information fit to print. Like a resume, not an investigative piece.

I'v added 'COURTSOFAPPEALDist4' to the key words.

All the CA Freepers in districts 1,2,3,5,6 need to get on the ball!

"State of California Commission on Judicial Performance" Lists all the Censure/Removal/Admonishments/Reprovals. You can fine tune your cite on the Judges Diciplinary actions. It contains historical records from 1960 when Judicial Discipline was confirmed by the CA Supremes, through the initiative approval of the Commisions dispensing Discipline. Its allot of reading through legalese. Some of it's interesting, and the rest will help you get to sleep on a long night.

It's a little worse than you site, only 5 removals by the commission. But the dates on the removals are all since 2000. On the other hand they sure like to Censure, Admonish and Reprove.

Thanks, BoneHead, for this information. I will fix my article and the judicial section. It's been over two years since I've re-read it and I notice it needs a lot of work. Guess I needed some distance to find more flaws.

You remarked that they sure like to censure, admonish and reprove. I respectfully disagree. If you actually add up the names of those they've censured, admonished and reproved, and consider how MANY judge's there actually are and have been in this state since 1960, and remember, that's 46 years (and I don't know the number but it has to be in the 10-30 thousand range, that's not very many censures, admonishments and reprovals considering how many judge's there are and have been.

Anyway, I'm just splitting hairs here. Thanks again for the Commission on Judicial Performance website link. I'd tried to find it in the past with no luck. You're a gem!

Point taken on the Censure,Admonish and Reprove. I see allot of recitivism(?) in the diciplined Judges names. Same guy/gal appears more than once....

That will raise some lawyers blood pressure.....

The judicial races are posted and I checked mine with Robyn's and I had picked the same. I'm Appellate District 4, Divs 1-3.

I started by using this website to see if and whose campaigns these judges donated.

http://www.newsmeat.com/

Then I found this thread and finished up. Thanks for that link. I feel much better about my choices. Now to send everything to all my family so they can vote correctly. They depend on me every election and now I've come to depend on much more knowledgable Freepers. Thanks everyone!

Just a heads-up to other FReepers in District 1. The website http://www.savecalifornia.com is reporting that William R. McGuiness is the judge who recently upheld marriage for a man and a woman and said in his decision that judges should not be rewriting marriage laws. He is reportedly being targeted for defeat by homosexual activists.

So please vote YES on William R. McGuiness.
