If this went to court, they would be required to carry all customers carrying legal items, including see-eye or companion dogs, which Muslims also bar from their cabs. (Assuming the court was not ruled by a liberal activist judge.) The preferred term is Service Animals Which, helpfully, includes pigs....

simple solution: break the somali stranglehold on taxi transportation The unasked question: WHY DO the Somalis have a stranglehold on taxi transportation?
Does the job pay so little that only a Somali would want it? Or are the Somalis making non-Muslim cabbies feel very unwelcome and driving them out of the profession?

No, a business should not be required by a government to serve customers. If they wish to refuse the fare, they can... just get to the back of the queue. The airport may require cabbies to obey certain rules in order to gain admittance to the cab pickup line of the airport. Those that do not want to obey the rules may pick up fares on the public streets outside. One rule is that cabbies should not refuse a legitimate fare

I would venture to guess most of them are illegals anyway.

the public response was overwhelmingly negative Translation: People are sick and tired of this crap, and think it's high time that they accomodated a bit to the rest of us for a change.
As I noted on another thread, if a Jewish cabbie refused a passenger with a bag of pork chops, or a Baptist cabbie refused a passenger with a Playboy Playmates calendar, or an atheist cabbie refused a passenger with a Bible, people wouldn't see it as a "religion" issue -- they'd see it as a "this guy is being an @$$hole" issue. The same principle applies here.

Where i do my grocery shopping there's a very nice young muslim man as a checker.
If he gets an alcohol purchase the bagger just pulls it through the scanner and puts it in a bag and into the cart or whatever.
He says his religion forbids him from touching it nothing else. Ringing it up is okay but touching it isn't.

"Those that do not want to obey the rules may pick up fares on the public streets outside. One rule is that cabbies should not refuse a legitimate fare" That's dangerously squishy. They can just say they felt "threatened" by the potential passenger. I'd like to keep government interference to a minimum: refuse the fair you go to the back of the line. And then let the mooslims starve for lack of income. Should this become a significant problem, increase the number of hack licenses so the passengers get served. Though I really do like the idea someone else put out. Hold a promotion: all arriving passengers get a welcome bottle of liquor.

Can Christian cabbies refuce to carry someone wearing a burka because it "offends them"?
