north korea had been chinese territoty for about 600 years by BC 440 orso.
the region to the north of DATONG river belonged to china until the 15th century.
so it is somewhat leistimate for china to claim N.K. from historical perspective.
but of course, china now surely is not ready to take over N.K,which would make chinese koreans' enemy forever.
all china want is to get rid of crazy Kim

so you american made a blunder by giving up CHIANG KAI SHEK.
i am from mainland china and repected Chiang Kai Shek very much..although he is still scolded by CPC for his anti-communism deeds, most chinese people contempt CPC's lies on sino-japanese war and think Chiang is a real hero of chinese people who saved china from the japanese imperialism.
if u american had supported Chiang and let china escape from mao, maybe china would be americans' closest and most powerful ally now.many problem, such N.K,would not exist at all.

"sinoguy" is just mad about the communists winning in 1949. America could have indeed turned back the tide.
Those days were a disgraceful time for the USA. Blame it on "American" Lefties and the Democrat party. They are responsible. MacArthur's planned counter stroke to Chinese Communist attack back in '50 would have wrecked the PLA, the Chinese Communist Party, the DPRK, and occupied Peking. Truman dismissed MacArthur because Truman didn't want this to happen.

So many brave Chinese men and their families died slowly because of the Truman administration. Many million free men perished.
Most of us at The Free Republic who are historically inclined are still angry with the "American" Left over this. There is much unfinished business over here.

no,macarthure's idea was stupid ,which only could arouse WW III.
the only chance for ur american would had kept china as close ally was to support Chiang to win chinese civil war.
but ur american obviously lost the chance and made a communist monster instead of a powerful ally.

We supported Chang with hundreds of millions of dollars. Don't blame America because China allowed itself to be taken over by communists.
To: sinoguy
Yes, people would respect you more if you could admit you lost your own civil war, the main word there is "civil", that means it was only Chinese fighting each other, Nationalist vs Communist, see?
Many foreigners come around to us and complain about whatever their history has in it. You should stop viewing us as gods, able to change every county's history with a wave of our magical hands. We're just people, just like you, and if you lose your civil war, well then, that's your fault.

"You should stop viewing us as gods"
LOL.
I couldn't have said it better myself.

LOL! Yes, that first sank in when I was in an Indian grocery store in Portland, Oregon. This Indian woman wanted to start some political argument and said "You (meaning the US) wouldn't sell us advanced weapons!"
I said "Please, you're free people, smart too, and there's 1 billion of you. You want a weapon, build the damn thing yourself, where do you think ours came from? Down from the sky?". And the Indian gentleman who owned the shop cleared his throat and she shut up.
But ever since then I've taken a shine to telling these folks from other places to attend to their own damn affairs and not address me as as their "Long Lost Pappy", or whatever the hell they think we're going to be for them this year. Damn people, take care of yourselves!!!

It's "your" not "ur", and talk is cheap. In the last 5 years we added the entire value of China's economy to our own, and you still have 350 million people with no jobs. You have $800 billion in currency reserves, and 1 trillion in rotten loans, according to one of the world accounting firms, which means over the last 20 years you've actually lost money, if you can believe that.
Your military is nothing compared to ours, and I have no doubt I'll just get propaganda and ignorance from you, so when we really see some power from China, and not just talk, then maybe I'll take you seriously. But I'm finished with talking to everyone as if they were important just because I have good manners. Like I said, talk is cheap.

We are not the ones who have been living under communist rule for 60 years, so it is not our blunder. It is China's blunder.
To: sinoguy
Maybe so. The US has never spoken with one voice. There are always differing opinions within the Gov't. Some in Gov't supported Mao and some still do. Others supported Chiang Kai Shek and still do. Time passes and most are not old enough to remember the events of the day first hand so all they know is what the books say, or what their grandfather says if he talks anymore. I know an American who was in China during WW II and managed a wing of bombers that flew every day toward the Japanese in the east, a war hero as much as most. He refused to debate Mao versus Chiang Kai Shek, but he is still very Liberal, a college professor, perhaps communist although he won't talk about that either.

Are we and the PRC on the same side on this one? I don't trust the ChiComs one bit on this. They are trying to play good cop/bad cop.
