I became curious about South Africa's current economic and political situation after reading comments by Desmond Tutu on the BBC which were something like "South Africa has failed to sustain the idealism that ended apartheid, warning of growing ethnic divisions."

This article in summary, says Whites are leaving South Africa for two primary reasons:
1) Crime
2) Affirmative Action

Also,
1) The whites that are leaving are between 20 and 40 years old and economically productive.
2) The whites that are staying are usually older and have no means financially to leave.

I predict South Africa will end up in a similar situation as Zimbabwe.

I also recommend reading the comments at the end of the article, they are very telling too.

It took me 8 months to find a job, constantly labeled over qualified and the crime is terrible, my house is a jail, my kids have learnt to be wary of everyone, the salaries are laughable, and the Rand is worth nothing! Ill be leaving again next year, to safe, secure Europe, with affordable schools & childcare. After all, The Minister of Safety & Security told me to leave didnt he? Im following his instructions! Good bye taxman - youll not be getting more from me after that! Id rather pay it to a government that actually uses it to provide services that benefit me, not their pockets!

One of my best friends left SA about 12 years ago because she could see the handwriting on the wall. She has to go back occasionally for family matters and she HATES it.

I saw a poll somewhere last years that said that most blacks in SA would rather return to white rule.
