Maybe you're not getting my point. When "Asian" youths come boiling out of a mosque - it gives the impression that they might be a bunch of Chinese kids. I don't understand the Brit's aversion to calling Muslims Muslim. It is not the "Asians" who are working toward a world wide Caliphate - it is Muslims who are. It is not "Asians" who want world wide Sharia law - it is Muslims.
Your insistance on calling Muslims "Asians" gives the appearance of Political Correctness taken to an extreme - almost like you are afraid of offending a Muslim. If I was a Korean or Japanese living in Britain - I would be highly offended when I heard rioting muslim youths described as "Asian".
The word Asian is to broad of a catagory. The word "Muslim" is more specific. And it is the "Muslims" causing trouble - not "Asians".
Some of the Muslims causing problems are not even Asian - there are Brits who have converted to Islam. If a bunch of English born converted Muslims start throwing rocks at cars - you can't very well call them "Asian", can you? You would be forced to call them what they are - "Muslims".
I do understand all that - what I don't understand is the aversion to using the word "Muslim" when that's what we are talking about.
If Christians in the Philippines were rioting - what would the Philippine press call them - "Asians" or "Europeans"? Of course not - they would call them "Christians".
Same principle.
We have the same problem over here.
The press will bend over backwards twice over, to avoid using "Muslims".
If anyone went off on a vulcanic fury, it was yourself. The other Brit bashers, that joined the thread, were feeding from you. IMHO.
Your hyperbole and vitriol would put Basil Fawlty to shame.
Why, thank you miss marmelstein.
I'm off to have a little sob now, regarding a comment about my dentist.
Sorry to hear you didn't have the mental telepathy to know what was behind that billboard, Miss M.
Guess it goes back to us being fat, dumb, redneck 'muricans!
;)
It would be interesting to know who paid for that billboard in the UK knocking America. The Muslim terrorists have plenty of big oil money to throw around on things to foment trouble between friends.
I refer you to post number 26 in which it is clearly explained that the billboards in question are part of a television campaign promoting American television.
Kindly read the thread.
I ask this, because I have given you a response as a London resident, who supports America, and does not hate jews asking you to withdraw your blanket statement. You have not responded to this post. Why?
I WORK, and have precious little time to read whole threads on any subject. Some people evidently have the TIME to hang on the net all day every day reading EVERYTHING on FR verbatim. I don't, and my observation was a personal one meant to answer some of the negative replies I have been receiving from Anglophiles on the thread reading perceived insults in my comments. . even accusing me of criticizing British TEETH for goodness sake!! . . and NO, I didn't even mention British teeth as my own are nothing to write home about!
PLEASE KINDLY stop issuing me orders on what I must do unless you are in charge of this forum; and if that is the case I am afraid I cannot continue to contribute in whatever meager ways I have the time or resources to contribute (either financially or in forum.)
"Maybe you're not getting my point. When "Asian" youths come boiling out of a mosque - it gives the impression that they might be a bunch of Chinese kids."
I get your point fine, I just think you're wrong. No-one in the UK (and the article came from a local newspaper in the UK)would pause to consider that interpretation.
"I don't understand the Brit's aversion to calling Muslims Muslim."
Who do you think is worshipping in a mosque? There's hardly some conspiracy going on here to cover up the fact that Muslims were involved in the incident.
"Your insistance on calling Muslims "Asians" gives the appearance of Political Correctness taken to an extreme"
No-one is insisting on calling Muslims asian. As I've repeatedly pointed out the two words are in no way synonyms. Someone who would be given the ethnic description 'asian' does not by any means have to be a Muslim. A Muslim could be of any ethnic descent.
"If I was a Korean or Japanese living in Britain - I would be highly offended when I heard rioting muslim youths described as "Asian"."
I don't really see why. I wouldn't be offended if a group of rioting youths were described as 'white'.
"Some of the Muslims causing problems are not even Asian - there are Brits who have converted to Islam. If a bunch of English born converted Muslims start throwing rocks at cars - you can't very well call them "Asian", can you? You would be forced to call them what they are - "Muslims"."
Well, no. If the police were giving an ethnic description of these people then they would describe them as 'white' (or applicable ethnic description). Describing them as 'muslim' would give no details of their appearance at all. For precisely the same reasons as you used earlier to show why American police would give an ethnic description of 'black' rather than referring to someone as 'Jamaican'.
I cannot speak for anyone other than myself giving you negative responses, so from my point of view ... I certainly cannot be described as an Anglophile; I am English 100%. I do, however have some significant, IMHO connections with the US - it annoys me no end that people like you, who as members of this forum I assume to be rational, cannot spend the time to gather the facts before entering a debate. If that is what you normally do, then I am not surprised that you often receive negative responses from those you consider to be anglophile.
I am certainly not a moderator of this forum. I am merely requesting that you and everyone else exercises a certain amount of decorum, and puts a certain amount of research into their responses. I do, however find it bizarre that you choose a post from an unknown to make it known that you no longer have the time or the money for this forum.
I do not cintribute personally to the upkeep of this site, but my household does, and we find it possible to work full days, make the time to do our background reading, and not to rant when uneccessary.
I hear no one ranting but you.
"Has anything good ever come from America?".
How about dental work!
BAWAWAWAW!!!
With all due respect, MY ORIGINAL QUESTION was NOT answered by Post # 26 as you chided me. My original question was - whose personal pocket did the funds to pay for the billboard come out of? or is it a state run campaign? Why I asked the question is not your concern.
And, I will jump into any discussion I please since you say you are not the boss. IF THE BOSS, which you say you are not, issues orders with which I am unable to comply, I would have no choice but to cease and desist from the forum. - In future, be very careful about getting caught with your own drawers down in regard to your haughty assertions.
Oh, and please don't feel compelled to answer my question. I am sure there are others on the forum capable of being courteous and indulging the silly questions of poor little Twinkie.
I have never - not once - never heard or read a report in the British press reporting that "muslim" youths were rioting or throwing stones at cars or whatever. It's ALWAYS - not once or twice - but always "Asian" youths.
As I keep saying, it isn't "asians" causing trouble - it's "muslims". Whether or not they are from Pakistan or Scotland, whether or not they are black, brown, yellow or white, it's the "muslims" causing problems - not asians, scots, blacks or whites.
We have a saying here in the States - "Let's call a spade a spade". Not a "agricultural tool" not a "garden implement" - a spade. Garden implements or agricultural tools could be rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, hoes, scythes or many other items. A spade is a spade. Period. An Asian can be one of dozens of nationalities or colors or religions. A muslim is a muslim. Period.
Wrong. Try this as an example:
Bradford takes stock of violence - Disaffected Muslim youths have been involved in the rioting, perhaps because, say their community leaders, they feel let down by society.
Now that's squishy and leftist (it's the BBC after all), but they identify them as Muslims.
Ivan
But post 26 answered the question. There are no shady fundamentalists bankrolling the media. The media, like in the US, is propped up by political opportunists from whatever side. I have no time for that.

Jump in if you will, but if you do, please make sense. I have not, nor will I issue orders. If you believe I have, then your paranoia ought to be brought to the attention of a professional by your family and friends.
Oh, and please don't feel compelled to answer my question. I am sure there are others on the forum capable of being courteous and indulging the silly questions of poor little Twinkie
I wonder why you cout the opinions of those who indulge you ... I would suggest that you court the help of a therapist, because I shall avoid your ravings from now on.
By all means DO avoid my questions in future, and I shall certainly afford you the same courtesy. In fact, my original question was NEVER posed to you personally in the first place, nor will it ever be in future. In fact, I doubt that I have EVER on any thread been likely to ever have asked you any question whatsoever. My history on FR has not been one of acrimony and haughty, judgmental insults, but somehow I have to wonder about yours. (Comments anyone?) I can very well do without the attacks and accusations of an apparently arrogant, apparently narcissistic apparently armchair therapist who goes into an absolute rant and rave because of ONE VERY SMALL QUESTION that was not originally asked of him in the first place.
