I read a remark on an NRO blog that needs to be talked about in Michigan. "When will the voters in Michigan wake up to the fact that most of the Democrat Party believes that the US automakers are aiding the war on terror by producing SUVs ?"(not to mention global warming)

The Democrats are anxious to see the demise of the US auto industry.

"The Democrats are anxious to see the demise of the US auto industry."

I would modify your statement thusly -

"The democrat workers need and want the jobs; however, the union fat cat hacks don't care about their workers and would gladly shut down jobs if it pushes their Marxist agenda."

Besides, the union bigwig hacks collect their paychecks whether or not any of the people under their care works or not.

Actually, the more accurate question would be "when will Michigan's political establishment realize that the automakers only employ a fraction of MI workers and take real steps to diversifying our economy?"

Until we undo a lot of the brainwashing that's gone on for decades (as explained by sargentdave), there's going to be problems. It's not just a 2006 problem, but it's going to be an on-going problem.

Also, regardless of party, in my area-SE MI, politicans are going to sing the praises on the Big 3 because they are still huge employers in the area-even with the lay offs and restructuring efforts.

When Granholm rolled out her commerical about how she was going to give tax breaks to auto workers who have lost their jobs, there was a huge backlash because it's not just auto workers losing their jobs. Her plan doesn't even include white collar workers that got laid off from Ford, so everyone knows that she's trying to get the union vote at the expense of everyone else in the state. It's right on camera and not a secret.

And to top it off, after her commerical, she hasn't approached the legislature for any legislation on her program.

If DeVos doesn't hammer her for it in the debates, then I'll be disappointed and I think that others will be as well. JMHO
