It is false these claims that keep being made "this country is made of of immigrants", because this country was and is not, historically only 5% of all Americans who lived and died working this great country were foreign born.

In contrast, 95% of those who made this country were born here as native US citizens.

But currently immigrants now make up about 10 percent of the population, and they are screaming its not enough, and using false claims that we need more in order to stay in the spirit and tradition of America as the land of immgrants...but this is simply just not true.....the levels are higher than ever before, and that is the real problem since these invasion numbers of immigrants are not the way this county as been built.

"If you go back and read articles during the flood of immigration early in the 20th century, the public was very angry."

But the anger was soon proven to be misplaced, because the immigrants turned out to be fine, proud Americans.

And it is very important to note these immigrants were legal, even if Americans were angry about their arrival.

My wife's grandparents came from Italy, never to return. Their sons served in WWII, earning Purple Hearts.

The children of early 20th century immigrants learned perfect English; which is hardly true for the illegals of today.

Nice letter. As a migrant I share the sentiment expressed. Our family came to Australia with one suitcase. I knew four words of english. I still remember what those four words were:

Crocodile. Salt & Pepper. Please.

Within six months, we all spoke english. Fluently. We had to. There were no translators, nothing was printed in any other language. Doctors, accountants, musicians, regardless of profession, men were handed a shovel, an ax or a pick and told to get to work; for the government. Every migrant male had to sign a three year contract to work where-ever he was sent...To the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric scheme, or various irrigation schemes.

And no accommodation was provided for the family. The wives and children remained in a migrant camp, until the husband/father earned enough to find a home for his family.

This is where we were living in a migrant camp named Bonegilla:

Migrants came to Australia from all over europe. More than 40 countries. There are more people of Greek background living in Melbourne than in Athens. All and everyone considers themselves AUSTRALIAN! Almost 30% of aussie citizens are post-WW2 immigrants or their descendants. We have Vietnamese, Chinese, Polynesians...and aside from Croats and Serbs during the 60's who brought their enmities with them, there has been NO CONFLICT!

UNTIL THE MUSLIMS ARRIVED. ISLAM DOES NOT ASSIMMILATE. MUSLIMS DON'T GIVE. THEY ONLY KNOW HOW TO TAKE.

"The last bastion of the original settlers (New England, excepting the Boston area of Massachusetts) is one of the most liberal areas of the country."

When my family helped found much of New England starting with Providence, Rhode Island and Rehoboth, Massachusetts, almost 400 years ago they were already considered liberal, and have remained so since, (the region not the family).

Nice to see a bit of OZ history.

My great-grandfather came to America in the 20s from Germany. NO one was allowed to speak anything other than English - GG'pa understood that mastery of English and hard work was a key to success. He was a harness maker. Great-grandfather was happy to have the chance to become an American.

My grandfather went back to Europe in WWI - likely as not shooting at some of his first cousins. Grandfather worked hard all of his life, soda jerk, short order cook, janitor - he was a homeowner and raised a family. His children (my Dad and Uncle) severed in WWII and the Korea conflict. He was happy to be American, said so often.

Dad and Uncle used the GI bill to get a better education and worked in the utility sector until they retired. Both raised families, owned homes and were active in the community. They were happy to be Americans.

I retired from the USAF, my siblings include two PhD holders, several Masters degrees and so on. All have professional employment. One of my sisters is even a police officer. Great-grandfather would be pleased, I believe. We are Americans and are blessed to be able to live in this great country.

My son just return home from a stint in the Corps. His brothers and sisters are also proud Americans.

Why do I post this - it is, after all, nothing but a note about my American family. No hyphens, no "old country" - just Americans. And proud to be American.

Substitute Australian for American and that's exactly the way I feel.

Now, compare this to what the mohammadans are told by their clerics:

(snip) Preserving the islamic Identity in the West

It is therefore unavoidable that as long as we live here we will, through a process of cultural osmosis, take on some of the characteristics of the Kuffar. The likeness of Islam and Kuffar is like that o f fresh clear spring water and water brought up from the bottom of a suburban sewer. If even a drop of the filthy water enters the clear water, the clarity diminishes. Likewise it only takes a drop of the filth of disbelief to contaminate Islam in the West. If we have it within our means we should therefore consider moving to a Muslim land whereby we can at least live amongst our brethren and within an Islamic society free from the contamination of the disbelievers.

If they want to move to Islam-land, more power to 'em.

Maybe they can get along with thier fellow muzzies--no wait, even then they kill each other. Not much hope for them then, is there?
