The 'Rats nailed their New Texas colors to the mast with a ticket led by brown-racist Tony Sanchez and a black businessman in 2002, with well-thought-of John Sharp third on the list, to bring out the "yellow dogs", the traditional hidebound East Texas (white) Democrats.
They got their asses kicked. The "yellow dogs" stayed home, reflecting their awareness that their party had thrown them over and was now the Party of Anyone but You. The GOP wiped the floor statewide with the Democratic Party, even in Houston/Harris County, a traditional Democratic stronghold. In Harris County, there is no countywide office now held by a Democrat. That would have been unimaginable even 15 years ago.
