I couldn't tell when he made the comments whether he was being serious or not. But they were funny -- I haven't been able to find a transcript or an audio file, I guess it wasn't "newsy" enough.

There was something about him on the news last night, and the group I was with started talking about him. I was a reporter on the Eastern Shore when he made his famous "outhouse" comment about the Shore. The news piece was basically a fluff piece about how that was really a joke and how much he always loved the Shore and did so much for the Shore, etc., etc.

As Comptroller, he was also very concerned about Marylanders bringing back merchandise (such as cigarettes) purchased out of state back across the state line.

Loss of revenue, don'tcha know.

If memory serves, for a while there were "inspectors" that would look at people's car trunks for such items.

In this case, though, the young lady in question brought him a cup of tea, was walking away and nearly out of the room when he called her back and told her to walk away again (for his viewing pleasure). It was not simple checking her out.

You're right. He was doing her a favor, actually, by giving her the opportunity to express her displeasure at his actions. Its the application of the 'one free grope' rule. All hail Bill Clinton. < /quasi-tounge-in-cheek >

Didn't Shaefer, years ago, call the Eastern Shore an "out house". [Mrs] T is from the Eastern Shore and remembers it.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think he is losing it or thinks he's above and beyond everyone because he's been in politics way too long.

Yes he did.

He should be long gone from politics for his arrogance alone.

What is it about MD governors that they all have to be arrogant?

If I remember correctly, when Mr. Schaefer was governor, he was known to have pictures of demonstrators taken. These pictures would then be sent to their homes or organizations. How he matched faces with addresses, I don't know. Perhaps he used DMV photocopies of drivers licenses?

Our two Democrat US Senators are the most liberal in government.

Oh, I dunno about that. I would think Feinslime and Boxcutter out in CA would give them a run for their money.

As far as living here, I like living here. I will probably move to Virginia, home of Maryland refugees, sooner or later, though.

You're just now discovering that liberalism IS arrogant?

You're right, Mr. Schaefer and myself have been having a little too much fun with the issue.
