No, I'd want him to admit the fact and then kindly step down...taking his pro-abort second-in-command with him.

You don't want any gay people at all in the GOP? Regardless of their behavior, regardless of their positions on other issues?

Chafee won? Looks like Kenny gets another set of satin sheets for his hope chest. LOL.

OTOH, this is no big deal----RI is historically a very liberal state.

They would dutifully vote for King Kong if he ran as a liberal---no questions asked.

And you'd get a blank look if you commented, "gee, that candidate was hairy, wasn't he?"

No. I'm very Jeffersonian in that regard.

Amen to that. The RNC is now no different that the DNC.

The Dems and the Pubs are both are big government parties. They only differ in what they want to spend money on.

"can someone tell me if the repubs in control ever back anyone but the incumbant?"

Yes, in yesterday's AZ GOP primary for Senate, to fill the retiring Kolbe's seat (R-AZ), the RNC gave money and support to the "moderate" Huffman over the conservative, Randy Graf. Happily, AZ Republicans are much smarter than those in RI, and Graf won, but there was positively NO reason for the GOP to interfere in that primary. A strong anti-illegal alien conservative has an excellent chance of winning in AZ this year, so there was no excuse for the RNC to oppose Graf. It did the same to Tom Coburn in '04 in OK, but he won and has been a conservative light in the dark, cowardly cloakroom of the GOP Senate. Apparently, that's not what W, Rove and the RNC are looking for. Despicable.

It wasn't very nice for unassuming, closeted Mehlman to "accidentally" release a top secret White House strategy tape to gay Republicans.

Kenny's offer to resign over the incident was not accepted.

I know it is difficult to accept Chaffee but remember that the democrats won't accept any dissention from their radical base point of view.....Lieberman, Zell Miller. I think it is in the Republicans interest to accept all points of view and continue to push the country to the right little by little. If we excluded all rinos from the party then we would have zero chance in the northeast and little chance in states like Washington, Minnesota, Wisconsin...etc.

It is frustrating but I prefer having oppossing viewpoints in the party that support our agenda some of the time than have all opposing viewpoints be democrats.

He has some things he was with us on. He supports school vouchers, he supports free trade, he voted yes on requiring voter ids to vote, he supported bush on his medicare drug plan, he supports aide to Israel, he supports more spending on military personnel, voted to reauthorize the patriot act. He is rated 31% by the AFL-CIO indicating an anti-union voting record. He voted for John Roberts. He supports privatizing social security. He supports allowing churches to provide welfare services

He has voted on many things must of us don't support as conservatives. However, if we kicked out all of the people that have different viewpoints, our party would become much smaller. George Bush has stood by people even when they didn't fully support him and I think that shows he is strong and can take critisism and dissent. In the end, if Chaffee wins his race it will be a small positive for Republicans. I would much rather have a true conservative but Chaffee is better than a liberal democrat on many issues.

your example doesn't hold if they were filling a retirement seat...my point was that the party is supposed to support the incumbent...not the challenger. To do so would scream of disloyalty by the party.

That is a legitimate reason to boot him out. heck, I'd say that the generally poor performance of the RNC is a legitimate reason to boot him out.

But just because he's gay? Especially when he keeps it to himself and doesn't make an issue of it? Absurd.

Not even using a Founder's name makes that any less goofy. It's like a DUmmy parody of "intolerant Republicans."
