to go to a page listing the names of all who died with links to their stories. I could not post it -- I think it might be too large for FR. In the words of Mr. Silverback, "we did not lose almost 3000 people, we lost 1 person almost 3000 times." Each one was a real person with a real story and deserves to be remembered.

First??
My wife & I were at home & I was going to the the store when I heard of the first crash on WJR 760 AM out of Detroit. I hollared to my wife about this & she told me to go get the kids out of the schools which I did. Then we sat in horror in front of the tv for the rest of the day[s]. And we cried with the rest of the country too!!

My friend Michelle called and told me to turn on the TV after the first plane crashed. I saw the second. I was glued to the TV for the next few days. We were having some work done in our back yard. I took a radio outside tuned to KMOX for our landscaper to listen to while he worked. Neither of us could believe it was true.

Flying Backwards

READ: Psalm 139:7-16

I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. —Psalm 139:14

I had read that hummingbirds can fly backwards, but the cynic in me doubted it. So when my wife mounted a hummingbird feeder by the kitchen window and filled it with sugar water, I sat down with a cup of coffee to see if it was true.

Before long, hummingbirds began to appear—a ruby-throated male and several females. I soon gave up trying to watch their wings as they flew. All I could see was a blur. I was captivated by the feisty little creatures as they darted up and down, away and back, vying for an open spot at the feeder and chasing one another away.

After a while, only one bird was left—her long, thin beak sucking up the liquid. Then, when she was finished, she flew straight backwards, then up, and finally darted out of sight among the trees.

How did she do it? God knows. Sometime on the fifth day of creation, while He was forming whales, sharks, orioles, and loons, God created the hummingbird with its amazing ability to fly backwards—a miracle of His power.

I didn’t need that awesome illustration to prove the existence and brilliance of God. But it did remind me once again that I have every reason to worship God, for I too am “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Ps. 139:14). David C. Egner -->

This is my Father’s world—
The birds their carols raise;
The morning light, the lily white,
Declare their Maker’s praise.  —Babcock

All creation points to the almighty Creator.

They came chasing after trouble
And their trouble's have just began
So the sun will soon be setting
For the Taliban in Afghanistan.
While their mouths talked of friendship
While they harbored therroris
Al-Queda and bin Ladan

September eleventh two thousand and one
Our land of freedom was defied
September eleventh two thousand and one
Uncle Sam replied.
We did it before and we can do it again
And we are doing it again
We've got a heck of a job to do
But you can bet we'll see it thru...

I was driving home from daily Mass, listening to Imus, when the 2nd plane hit.

Sped home, watched TV, tears rolling down my face...........called my mom, called my hubby, called my kids.....two of them were attending college away from home, including Ev. He was asleep, hadn't heard a thing................I told him to turn on the TV.........

I remember so many details from that day.....the long lines at the gas station.....taking my daughter to an appointment and sitting in the waiting room, where they had the radio on, and hearing about the Pentagon........my choir director calling to cancel practice because everybody was too much in shock..........instead, the church scheduled a prayer service for the following evening....the sadness on the faces of the few children who came for their piano lessons.......the American flags which by that evening were already going up all over town, including at our house.........

It was in large part due to the events of that day that Ev decided to enlist. He'd knew going in that he'd end up being deployed overseas. He planned on it from day one.

My heart goes out to the families of the victims on this sad anniversary.
