But, "making medical decisions based on this information at this point in time we say is not appropriate," warned Hirsch, who is conducting similar research and already receives "just heartwrenching" requests for help.

What kinds of inappropriate medical decisions would you be persuaded to make, if you found out your loved one was conscious? Would you provide them with stimulation? Would you talk to them more? Would you leave a television or radio on when they're left alone? Would you feed and water them? Would you see to it that they get some type of therapy? Or would you do the appropriate things, like neglecting them, and killing them?

Look how far we've come since Florence Nightingale was a nurse. We've made unbelievable advances technologically, and unbelievable declines morally.

Ah yes, the "aren't they euphoric and beautiful" crowd.

>> This could cause some problems for those who want to kill them.

Not if you buy the right judge and the right "expert" testimony.

I believe this article. Dems are actually functional and in a vegetative state.

I started a thread earlier today about a couple that used a home remedy on their foster son. Only doctors are licensed to kill people with cognitive disabilities. This unlicensed couple just wrapped their foster son up in a blanket and duct tape, then put him in the closet while they went away on vacation. When they got home, believe it or not, he was dead. They thought they could avoid prosecution, if they took on the role of funeral director. So they burned his body, and dumped his remains in the river. Then they reported him missing, and put on a dog and pony show, while the community frantically searched for him. But they accidentally left some bone fragments in the fireplace. Now they're in big trouble. They're charged with something like child neglect and manslaughter. But let's be honest. They were practicing medicine without a license.

This part does not make sense to me. Confining the child to a closet for a couple of days should not kill him. I wonder if they suffocated the boy with the restraints? Or whether the story was all a crock? How did the authorities determine that that was what happened? The only evidence they have mentioned was the bones found later.

When I googled it, there were over 800 news stories about it. I'm betting the answer is in one of those articles, but I'm not going to read them all. Maybe somebody else will come across the answer, and post it here.

A person can't exist in both states simultaneously.

Perhaps this indicates that some diagnosed as vegetative are misdiagnosed. Or that the definition of vegetative state is wrong.

Ah yes, the "aren't they euphoric and beautiful" crowd.

They and some Muslims have a commonality. Each hypothesizes a euphoric end but none are anxious to go there themselves.

This looks more like the locked-in state than it does the vegetative state.

When my mom was dying and in a coma, they told me to talk to her because she could hear me.

That is what we were told also. They meant to "watch what you say" in her presence because she could hear. In other words, you don't need to talk about her like she isn't in the room. So, we talked up a storm to her...about good things.
