See post #9 "typical shoulder-fired SAM". I agree ... a larger MANPAD SAM has the punch to cause immediate structural damage.
nm, your post beat mine!
Informative, yes, but the entire premise bugs the hell out of me. Here we are training our pilots to be on DEFENSE against Islamofascist scum. When do we go on OFFENSE and eradicate this threat to mankind? Then we wouldn't have to train our pilots on flying without hydraulics, take our shoes off to get on airplanes and be wary of muzzie drivers afflicted with Sudden Jihadi Syndrome.
3 Engine (DC-10/MD-11_ or L-1011) worked well enough...
3 Engine (B727... had manual reversion only...anyway!)
Only 2 Engines to play with (B-757/767/777 or Scarebus series) ... Both must needs be working well...
Techniques involve using underwing thrust and selective overwing spoilers for pitch control...
Any motor out without good flight control hydraulics...
No help... Ruh-Roh...
Yeah, it sounds like that included the new software. Plus they were landing at Edwards; you don't always have a 44 square mile runway available in real life.
