Sounds like she's got it backwards: terrorism leads to stereotypes.
If anybody in the West had stereotypes of Muslims before the new round of active jihad, they were probably formed by watching the movie Lawrence of Arabia, or reading Kipling, and they weren't particularly bad sterotypes. More likely, Muslims were thought of as odd folk far away, or not though of at all.
