Wouldn't it be classified as a typhoon?

Hope it doesn't hit California...cough, cough
To: Terpfen
I'm not sure. I think it has to pass over a certain threshold. Ioke was a hurricane until some point when they changed it to Super Typhoon Ioke.

Pretty sure the storms are named hurricanes in the Atlantic, and typhoons in the Pacific.

frankly the could use the rain, but the mudslides! And worst of all Tom and Katie may have to take Baby Suri out of the house and to higher ground. What a horrible thought.

Nope, in the Atlantic and and the Northern Pacific east of the international dateline, it's a hurricane; in the Northern Pacific west of the dateline, it's a typhoon.

rare from what I understand. They mostly do what this one is projected to do and go out to sea. But this one has been kinda interesting to watch. It was just classified as a Cat 1 a little earlier today. Then BANG Cat 3

It's only a Typhoon if it has drossed the dateline...
Anything in the EPac or the Atlantic are Hurricanes....
Anything in the WPac or Indian Ocean are Typhoons....
