#451, not really after all every Officer knows when he signs up that he may be killed in the line of duty tomorrow, but the chances are not that high, other occupations are even more dangerous. I am sure the reporters are the same way, sure it could happen, but they probably think it will not,and may think that it won't be a kidanpping but that they will just be killed outright.

The emotion of the song, and the "rightness" of it's intent is why I posted it.
I can't get through the whole thing, either, without tearing up.
I think your're right on to cast GWB as Don Quixote, though I hope he fares better in the long run. Regardless, the point of the story is that others will carry on the noble causes, no matter the cost.
For those who have forgotten
Artist: Musical "Man of La Mancha" Lyrics
Song: The Impossible Dream Lyrics
Lyrics by Joe Darion
In this song, Quixote explains his quest and the reasons behind it ... in doing so,
he captures the essence of the play and its philosophical underpinnings.
(For me, it is absolutely magical.)
To dream ... the impossible dream ...
To fight ... the unbeatable foe ...
To bear ... with unbearable sorrow ...
To run ... where the brave dare not go ...
To right ... the unrightable wrong ...
To love ... pure and chaste from afar ...
To try ... when your arms are too weary ...
To reach ... the unreachable star ...
This is my quest, to follow that star ...
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far ...
To fight for the right, without question or pause ...
To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause ...
And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest,
That my heart will lie will lie peaceful and calm,
when I'm laid to my rest ...
And the world will be better for this:
That one man, scorned and covered with scars,
Still strove, with his last ounce of courage,
To reach ... the unreachable star ...

Totally agree with you Samantha. That's why I did my part in triggering the allusion to Don Q to get phsstpok started.
(Like showing McCain the queen of hearts).

#460 - So why did Bobby Knight catch so much guff when he said if rape is inevitable, just lay back and "enjoy" it?
Is it that emothional surrender (words) do not mean as much as physical surrender?
To: Phsstpok; samantha
What a wonderful song, and a wonderful analogy! It is a perfect fit!
I always like to remind the Bush-haters here on FR that George Bush, and his family, will be targets for the rest of their lives. Islamofascists will be looking to kill him and his family for the next 40 years. Once in a while I manage to shame someone.

If she is, don't let her come visit. People ALWAYS die whenever that lady shows up!
To: Phsstpok
I cannot believe how strikingly Profound those lyrics are,and how they fit GWB,and the situations he has been put in to this day. Even though he is certainly no Don Quixote as far as fighting windmills, and such that song is an interpretation by the lyricist of the big struggles in life that separates the cowards from the Heroes. That song is a gut wrenching and really wonderful work of art.

Are you McCain's sibling?
To: shalom aleichem
#465, because obviously he has never been in that situation. I wonder how he would feel if it was a 750 pound woman that smelled like three day old road kill, and was assaulting him. Apples and Oranges,he has always been an insensitive boor.

#466, right you are, keep shaming them. If you get a chance listen to the old late 60's recording of the "Impossible Dream" by Jack Jones, it is very dramatic and will leave you breathless.

Are you McCain's sibling?No.......
where are we going with this?
I took you comment in 464 to imply that I might be subject to such blandishments. Really, the Queen of hearts means nothing to me, Frank. Not a thing....
As to Johnny M, I fully endorse the allusion.

Able Danger is not going away. I have yet to hear one Democrat able to defend against it. It is kind of like the Swift Boat information. Speaking of which, has Kerry released his Form 180 yet? What happened to the Barrett Report?

Re #470 - What I meant was I raised the Sancho Panza deal last week (speaking about why people like McCain), and Psstpok went off on cue speaking of Don Q, Impossible Dream, etc.
Here is my post from last week:
To: zook
Your defense of McCain is amazing. It reminds me of trying to disuade a teenage daughter from running with the town hood. She agrees, "yea, that's true, but...yea, that's true also, but... ". Forget reason. It also brings to mind Sancho Panza defending Don Quixote. ("I like him, I really like him...pull out my fingernails one by one, I like him..."). Good for you.

We all have a feeling when someone hates the hate eventually comes back to them. Democrats will be hated for their hate. It is a method of self-destruction. Dean, Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, Kennedy are all promoting Bush Hate.
What is the first thing you think when you hear the Democrat Hate Machines Names? The first thing I think is a bunch of losers.
