From what I've heard they are the best littoral sub ever built. VERY quiet and able to operate in shallower water than nukes.

Israel may not need to put nukes on their boats. They can probably hit Iran with nukes now.
But they would need the second strike capability that nothing else but subs can give them to dissuade Iran from launching a pre-emtive first strike with either nuke or non-nuke missles.

Germany..........is helping Israel????
Someone pinch me. Actually over here there are a lot of Germans helping Israel, it is one of the most represented countries. The top financial supporters are the Americans followed closely by the Japanese, the top non-financial supporters are Americans, Germans and South Africans.
God bless Israel!
And God will bless Germany too!

Most likely a fuel cell to recharge the batteries. Would be very effective.

I'd ask why, but it'd be pointless. If the Germans want to feel perpetually guilty, that's their problem It is called the fruits of true repentance. I would think that repentance for Genocide would have to bear a lot of fruit.
Besides, the interest on a few hundred million dollar loan is a perk.

Israel needs a reliable second-strike capability.
If an Iranian nuke should strike Israel, they must hit back with everything, so that the bulk of the remaining Iranian population resides in the -8 timezone!

First of all, "the German radio has just announced that Hitler is dead. I repeat that, the German radio has just announced that Hitler is dead." Secondly, Hitler lies in no grave. His ash was blown away, the rests of his burned bones lie somewhere in a box in Moscow. Thirdly, Germany is an ally and friend of the United States. If the G.I.´s of WW2 saw the purchase of Chrysler from heaven, they surely didn´t mind at all.

Wish they had nukes on board that ship.Re-read the first paragraph:
provide superior second-strike nuclear capabilities...

So, are saying this indicates they DO have nukes on board or just that the ship is CAPABLE of launching them if they had them?

Note that the people allegedly doing the repenting aren't the ones that offed the Jews.

They don't come onboard when it is delivered, and I just cannot imagine that the Israelis would use these boats, which primary feature is their undetectability (I heard a swedish hydro sucessfully played hide with an american sub for two weeks) and their long sustained submerison for nuclear second strike capabilities. I just can't. That would be too obvious.

By the way, the special thing about the 212 compared to the 214 export version seems to be the non-magnetic hull composed of specifically designed steel, combined with certain installed magnets that nullify differences from the earth's magnetic field. That may be the reason why Israel chose the 212.

It is pretty much an open secret that the Dolphin-class subs Israel already has (which are based on a somewhat older German design than the U212A/214, but still equipped with the most up-to-date electronics) are capable of carrying and launching cruise missiles that have been modified to carry nuclear warheads.
The question of whether the subs do have nukes on board is whether they loaded the conventional or the nuclear cruise missiles before taking to sea.
The main advantage of the newer U212A/214 subs with their fuel-cell-AIP is that they combine most of the advantages of nuclear submarines (namely staying submerged for a prolonged period of time, Israel can basically order their subs to hide off the Iranian coast for weeks without the Mullahs ever knowing, which means you can send the subs at the beginning of a crisis instead of the high point of tensions, where the enemy might be much more vigilant. And if things really get nasty, well: SURPRISE!) with that of the smaller diesel-electric subs, namely their compact size and maneuverability, which makes them ideal for the mediterranean or the Persian gulf.

I'll go one step further and say all of Europe is arming themselves against radical muslim invasion....good to see Europe reaching out to Isreal to help fight against the war on terror...because that is precisely what it's going to take.

It's just a bit surreal for things to end up that way. I suppose that stranger things have happened, though. BMW building the Cooper Mini probably qualifies. :-)

Note that the people allegedly doing the repenting aren't the ones that offed the Jews. Obviously not as it was 60 years ago. It was their daddys... One thing I have about arrogant whiteies, is they feel no responsibility for what their ancestors did, they are all about themselves. They have no sense of purpose in life beyond they hand going to their mouths.
