Rummy said we would be down to 30 000 troops by Christmas 2003.

This was grotesquely wrong, and he should have resigned simply for the embarrassment.

I remember Dick Cheney warning the American people that we may lose tens of thousands of troops in Iraq alone

I think you are thinking about the first gulf war:

"And the question in my mind is how many additional American casualties is Saddam worth?" Cheney said then in response to a question.

"And the answer is not very damned many. So I think we got it right, both when we decided to expel him from Kuwait, but also when the president made the decision that we'd achieved our objectives and we were not going to go get bogged down in the problems of trying to take over and govern Iraq."

It's going to be beautiful to watch McCain crash and burn in the primaries.

No, it was this one. He's known for giving worst case scenarios and he did that before the war actually began.

They never told us it would be easy

could you find a quote on it? I know the President never did, others did. Does it matter at this point? Probably not, aside from trustworthiness. Hell, the marines are recalling their reserves.

McCain would be more to the right of Bush on defense, a little thing people don't like to talk about here.

Republican U.S. Sen. John McCain, who has been a staunch defender of the war in Iraq, said Tuesday that the sacrifices required were underestimated and Americans were misled into believing the conflict would be "some kind of day at the beach."

When did that ever happen? The main stream press told us endlessly before the war ever started that tens of thousands of American soldiers would die, and that this war would be another Viet Nam. And after the war did start, we got news stories about the troops being bogged down, and this was the beginning of a quagmire. And when Saddam's regime toppled in 3 weeks we were told have difficult maintaining the peace would be. So when were the American people deceived about the difficulty of the military action in Iraq, and who did this? Certainly not by President Bush who cautioned us on several occasions about the difficult days ahead.

some kind of day at the beach.

Yeah Bloody Tarawa....

Remember when everyone thought that Saddam was going to use WMD's to stop our troops at all costs and that they had to wear their NBC suits all the way to Baghdad.

Even The Iraqis were surprized when their chemical weapons weren't used.

Yeah....Some kind of day at the beach.

Kenneth Adelman was not a member of the administration at the time, although he was on an external advisory board giving independent advice to the Pentagon. His words do not authoritatively reflect the views of the administration. And I recall specifically the President saying at the time that the process would be difficult and take time. That was certainly the impression I got from listening to administration statements at the time.

Why do I sense you are a McCain supporter? I have never missed voting in an elections since 1980 but I will sit 2008 out if he is the GOP pick.

Another popular myth is the administration saying Saddam was directly connected to 9/11. They never said that, either.

Irrational? They were showing McCain making his speech on Fox and asking analyst from both sides why McCain was attacking the Bush Administration. I see McCain for what he is and he is a double speak politician who only has his best interest at heart.

Plus, the Left looks at him as a "Populist." This means they see McCain as a "Progressive."

You can be assured there will be many of us who will fight to keep him off the GOP ticket in 2008.

If he was president, what do you think he would do to harm conservative issues/causes?

You are right, Wolfowitz.

Exactly! I can still see Wolfowitz testifying, saying that.

Since your opinion that has obviously festered from the bitterness of your irrelevance is the exact opposite of the overwhelming majority of Freepers in this forum, I will take your fact-less analysis for what it is worth.

First of all, I do NOT trust him. Second of all, he has pushed for certain legislation that I do not support along with other Conservatives.....such as.... CFR and the Illegal immigration legislation, he is totally disgusting to me.

Since the majority in this case are conservatives here at FreeRepublic who chose not to use Arlington National Cemetery as their personal toilet, this majority is right.

Then again, only someone who pretends to be a conservative as they act as a useful idiot of leftists would not know this.

Yes, I use Arlington National Cemetary as a personal toilet.
Your family must be so proud of you, to be able to raise discourse to such a level. And to think you performed this magnificent feat at the same time as writing nothing about the thread over multiple posts! Bravo.
