Ladies,
Hello to both of you. CG, meet basil. She is one of my favorite FReepers. We met in DC in 2000 (can you believe that it is 6 years already?) during the first rally of the Second Amendment Sisters (of which basil was a founder) and again in Houston and DC.
basil, say 'hi' to CG -- also a fav (local) of mine and btw also a fierce defender and practitioner of the 2nd Amendment.
Yes, the war is serious but the only Republicans that I know who do not take it seriously are those who are our elected officials who obstruct it from their plush DC offices. Our biggest threat is our open borders and yet the president himself will not act to close them.
Santorum blasted a local Republican leader who hosted Bay Buchanan when she came to town to talk about illegal immigration. Santorum was livid because she told us of his votes against border security and his office was flooded with calls. He felt the heat and 'saw the light' though I too doubt his sincerity.
Our military is the best in the world and cannot be defeated if they are allowed to fight and win. PC rules will not get the job done. Prosecuting our troops based on the word of the enemy is not the way to support the troops. They are charged with safeguarding our lives. They will effectively do their job as they always have.
But in protecting America. . .
See my tagline for the rest of that thought.
Defending our liberty is another matter and that is up to us through our elected politicians. Our liberty is only at risk to the degree that we let politicians take it from us whether it is under the guise of 'for the children' or 'safety' or 'the world has changed' or 'need' or whatever the reason du jour.
We can't give up who we are. We can't give up our liberty. We cannot allow cheap self serving politicians to get away with abusing our trust and their oath of office. They must be held to account regardless of the "R" after their name.
It's too bad that politics no longer stops at the waters edge. I wish that the Dems were truly the just loyal opposition and not just the opposition, but we cannot allow the pubbies to be just another advocate of bigger government and wasteful spending as the Dems go further to the left. If we do. we'll end up with two leftist parties with little discernible differences.
I will vote for conservatives. I will not vote for a RINO. A RINO is just a liberal who couldn't find an opening to run in on the "D" ticket. They aren't our friends and will rarely vote with us. They are unreliable and inconsistent at best, and truly oppose us the rest of the time.
The GOP needs to hear that loud and clear know that we will withhold our support if there is to be any chance of them doing the right thing and doing it consistently. They will do the minimum to keep our votes and retain their power. They need to know that they must do a lot more or they will lose it. Put the fear of God into them. Make them act on our behalf and in our best interests, not their own.
Ditto.
Well said.
I agree with nearly everything you said, but I have to disagree with one thing--for this election only--and that is that we have to keep as many pubbies in office as possible. We cannot let the dims gain control of either house while we are at war. Any other time, I wouldn't vote for a RINO, either,
If the dims win either house in this election, our war on terror will either come to an abrupt end, and will indeed be another Viet Nam times about 20--because the terrorist will be more emboldened than ever. Unlike the Viet Namese, the terrorists are able to hit us where we live. That's not a risk I'm willing to take!
Our hearts are together on this, but my head takes me away since the damn pubbies aren't doing what they should to safeguard us at home.
I don't see a shift in control, but I do think that some pubbies need to be excised for the good of us all and to teach all that remain a lesson. If we do that, we'll have an easier time of it next time.
Take care, dear lady.
