A Fiscal Conservative is not someone who thinks we need a state income tax and believes it is unfair we 'don't have a state income tax to deduct from our federal taxes'? I don't know where you get your information, but Rylander-McLelland-Foghorn-Strayhorn is on record with all of these proposals and it wasn't but a few years ago she was on the ballot as a Democrat with Queen Ann promoting her..

Do not feel alone.There are many 'older'Democrats that I highly respect.Many do not realize that their party was hijacked by kooks quite some time ago.My in laws are in their late seventies,and around four years ago,I was horrified to find out they voted Democrat.So,as the wife and I were taking them to the polls to vote,I asked them a few simple questions.Do you believe in abortion?Responce,my goodness no!Do you believe you should have your taxes raised to pay for the lady down the street with five children who wont work?Responce, no!After a few very simple questions,nothing really major,by the time we arrived at the polling place,there were two new republicans in our midst!I had never heard of Zell Miller before the Republication convention,but I would change parties to vote for him.He put it all in a nutshell.America is in trouble,and we need strong leadership to pull us out of it.The things I hear spewing out of the politicians mouths make me very nervous.You are right in my opinion on your assesment.Thanks for the informative reply.Regards.

I dunno how long you have been in Texas, jjtwo. This Carole character has been changin' surnames and parties pretty regular. She is no Ma Ferguson. The leftists are trying to make that "connection". Please take a look at what is at stake. Perry is admittedly not the sharpest tool in the shed. But nobody with ANY conservative credentials has stepped up. From either party. Ask yourself if you are voting for a status quo, even if it is not perfect. Or for change, knowing that it will be liberal. Even Marxist/Socialist liberal.

I saw an analysis by a think tank a while back that rated Perry something like 85% Conservative and Strayhorn 40% (Kinkey didn't register as he doesn't have a record and Bell was in the teens..)

Sure, Perry isn't 100% Conservative, or even 90%, but at least it is forward momentum.
