Interesting timing for this leak. It puts Iran on notice that we know when and how they move their missile stuff around.
The number of leakers involved seems unusual. It almost sounds like an "official" leak, meant to convey a direct, albeit deniable, warning to the bad guys.

Iran's United Nations mission denied trying to send Hezbollah weapons.

The episode was detailed by one U.S. intelligence official who saw a report on the incident. It was confirmed by a U.S. official from a second intelligence agency and by a diplomat with a foreign government. They did not want their names used because they were not authorized to discuss the incident. And there was a great need to disseminate this information for....what reason?
I'd love for the reporters on these kind of stories to expound on the motives of their informants in a short paragraph.

This was the missile the Iranians were smuggling to Hezbollah.

Looks like an inert Sparrow training missile taken from Iran's equally inert F-14As.

They should have blocked it with a Sidewinder.

"Though the missiles were not visible in the satellite photos, the launchers and specialized crates with distinctive shapes allowed U.S. analysts to identify the missile type,"
The next shipment will have "Baby Milk" stenciled on the top.

They probably labled the boxes as spare parts.

They need to stop every plane that comes from Iran in Turkey and Iraq and search it. Shut down all flights to Syria or Lebanon by Iran and then blockade all their ships.

This was the missile the Iranians were smuggling to Hezbollah. You would think they might have tried to cover it up with camo netting or something. Hauling it around on a flatbed truck where you could take a picture was not really bright......
To: garbageseeker
No doubt this whole incident was diseminated via Turkey and Iraq to other countries around the region, including Syria and Russia. "Hey guys, we're watching all of you, and by the way that tie is ugly."

I agree. If the U.S. stopped this flight, imagine all the other flights that managed to get through. I think now that they will start searching flights from all these countries and many more.
