Please send my congratulations to them.

I earned my Eagle Scout a couple days after my 15th birthday and even today people tell me "congratulations" once they hear that I earned it. I'm thirty now, and every job interview I have ever been on someone has commented on the fact that I am and Eagle. It is one of the things that made me the person I am today.

Those kids should be proud of themselves, they worked hard to earn Eagle. Some of the most influential Americans in the 20th century were Eagle Scouts, maybe they can be a couple of the Eagles that will have a great influence on the 21st century.

It's up to the troop. One of our troops does almost no camping. Another troop does a ton of it.

Boy Scouts is all about preparing our young men...and women...to be the leaders of tomorrow.

You are exactly correct.

The many character traits scouting helps develop include pride, honor, service, time management, goal setting, discipline, respect for God and country, and measured achievement over a period of several years. Combined, these factors equal leadership. As noted in my above posting, Eagle Scouts consistently rise to positions of great responsibility -- and this doesn't happen by accident.

Well, when he has the idea he needs to keep a record of every phone call made and the duration successful or not, every trip to coordinate counting not just his time but the time of the person he talks to and the person who drove them to the coordination trip, along with the time of all the folks that help and include that in his final packet submitted. My son called it his "Pirate's Log."

Congratulations to Alex and Joshua. WE are very proud of them and they should be proud of themselves.

SECDEF Donald Rumsfeld is an Eagle Scout as well as a Navy veteran..

An Eagle scout today isn't the same as 10 or especially 20 years ago.

I still take my hat off to any young man that perseveres. Congratulations are in order. At least their time wasn't dominated with Zork!

Most tests of skill and endurance are less than they used to be... Political correctness and "equal opportunity" have done them in!

...While in Receiving, you'll be given the Initial Strength Test (IST). To pass (and avoid the Physical Conditioning Platoon), you'll be required to do 2 dead-hang pull-ups, 44 crunches in 2 minutes, and a 1.5 mile run in 13.5 minutes (males). Females are required to run 1.5 miles in 15 minutes, perform a flex-arm hang of 12 seconds, and do 44 crunches in 2 minutes... -about.com

When Neil Armstrong said, "The Eagle has landed" he was refering to himself, not the spacecraft!

The Eagle has landed, indeed.

More to come.

Thanks for the encouragement.

I guess you could say my son is either blessed or cursed with me as his dad. I'm a Woodbadge graduate, as well as previous Asst. SM, SM and currently his Webelos Den Leader who never made it to Tenderfoot as a Boy Scout. I sure enjoyed the camping and outdoors stuff though, just didn't have the parental support you alude to in getting rank advancement completed.

My son will not grow up regretting the lost opportunity to lay claim to the title of Eagle Scout if I can help it.

I don't care what any one says about Scouting, I know that IT IS an ABSOLUTE POSITIVE in a world of negatives. Like you, I am absolutely sold on it's aspects and program. They work.

Yours in Scouting,

SZ
