It seems unusual to me that a Bronze Star V award would be presented one year after service. It also seems rather suspect that the same award was presented during Murtha'a campaign for the 22nd Congressional District, don't you think??

Why don't we ever see a detailed account of what these supposed military heros actually did? I've got nothing but respect for guys who actually behaved bravely under truly trying circumstances (Bob Dole for example)but I suspect that there are a lot of band aid purple hearts being used to manufacture reputations. Bill Mauldin drew a cartoon during WWII that showed GI Willie standing in front of a medical guy at a desk. The caption was " I've already got a purple heart, just give me a bandaid." I suspect that Kerry, Murtha, and the like reversed that comment.

I think the part of the story that should be trumpeted is why he got his award, for activities that resulted in the deaths of many communists!

The left should be reminded that Murtha is possibly responsible for who knows how many NVA and Viet Cong "freedom fighters" being slaughtered. And that he wasn't just a soldier, he personally did everything short of dropping Napalm on their bullet-ridden bodies after signing their death warrants.

Yep, he should be called John "the commie-killer" Murtha.

I'm sure the left would understand.

Nothing unusual about a one year delay. After my return to CONUS we had several combat awards presented to people for their time in Viet Nam. My Purple Heart was awarded for wounds received at Hue 23 February 1968. The orders are dated 28 May 1968 – after I left Viet Nam for Fort Eustis. It was presented to me during the summer of 1969 when I was stationed in Okinawa. Sometimes it took awhile for the paperwork to make the rounds.

OH, He disregarded enemy mines and sniper's? WOW. That decribes every man and woman in RVN, who even went to the PX or BX. Add those who went to town or ever left their remington typewriter. What an insult to real Marines.

Col Davis, who presented cut and run's BSM. Now this jerk gets a SS in a chopper? He killed 500 plus bad guys from a slick? Give me a break. Always respect Marines, not these two. Looks like a bad bunch of politics for the Corps.

Murtha's a sleazeball, an absolute piece of garbage. But I see no value in digging around his service record. It will likely only backfire.

If you go to Mutha's official website, you will find copies of the transmittal letters for his two PHs and Bronze Star, but not the actual awards themselves

Murtha's failure to include the information about his PHs or the reason why he was awarded the Bronze Star are odd to say the least. No after action reports or medical info is provided. The PH letter references Murtha's request of 26 Sep 1967, which means that he must have initiated it after the fact. Murtha should be asked to provide this info. I bet he was never hospitalized for the two PHs. I wonder how the PHs were documented.

Murtha has recently added this info to his website, but the transmittal letters are a smokescreen. He needs to be called on it.

The one-year post service part means little. The election timing makes one quite suspicious, however.

Mister Murtha gathered a Kerry-load of service decorations. Perhaps some of his comrades in arms might be best able to describe if he really deserved them -- or if he gamed the system.

This Marine Dad wants the full and complete "skinny" on Mister Murtha and his Marine medals.
