So maybe the U.S. should do a little mine clearing on the Syrian border.

Count on this: Israel will move when they see an act of war and it doesn't mean a shot has been fired by Syria. Any rocket launch by Hizbus could be that act of war. It's just when Israel gets that gut feeling that it's going down now.

Anyone taking bets on which side breaks the cease-fire first?

On who breaks it or who gets blamed for it?

Did Fox mention where this came from? Nothing on the wires or in local Israeli news sources I can see.

it is good if syria is on the offensive. As the original T-62 is more than 40 years old, its obsolete 115 mm gun is understandably inadequate for combat against modern Western tanks. The T-62's armor is homogenous cast steel, incorporating neither spaced armor techniques nor composite armour, so a modern tank with a 120 or 125 mm tank gun can destroy it on the first round at any range at which it can be seen Israeli tanks can pick them off easily, making up for the smarting loss of a half dozen or so Merkavas against advanced antitank rockets in lebanon

The question is who will get the blame.

Blame has already been placed. It makes no difference what happens.

Syria continues its efforts to transfer large quantities of war materiel, including rockets, to Lebanon, in an effort to assist Hezbollah in its war against Israel, a senior Israel Defense Forces source told Haaretz on Saturday.

Soooooo... Does this mean the ceasefire is still on? Olmert going to stand down and recall the IDF?

I ask this seriously.

Israel will have to stand alone in this. Rice has turned into Neville Chamberlin, so they can't count on her. UN will side with Hezz/Lebanon. Media are pro-Hezz.

Does Israel have the courage to tell the UN to stuff it and wipe out Hezz once and for all? Do they get rid of Olmert the Dove and get someone committed to total victory (like Bibi)?

I'm sad to say, Israel may cave-in...

Do the Iranians have anything more modern to send them?

You guys are hyperventilating again.

Syria just won this war. They're going to consolidate their gains before the sneeze fire.

No, just Israeli intelligence...one of their reporters in the north of Israel reported it as "breaking news on the Syrian border tonight." Of course, it's Fox, so maybe the Syrians have just found Natalee Holloway.

We could see Isaiah 17 come to pass in this conflict yet.

Just saw on Fox that the IDF is monitoring unusual activity on Syrian border in the Golan Heights...tanks there, they are removing land mines at the border...not up on their website yet

Probably not on their site because they first reported it in the evening on August 9th.  Here is just one of many blog entries referring to it.

Sirens ringing in Golan Heights-Syrians removing landmines?

The female reporter (can't remember her name) on Fox's Shepard Smith show said that Syria is reportedly removing land mines along their border with Israel. She went on to explain why this was not a good sign. No link, but maybe someone else heard it too.

One can only hope. Result would be many charred hulks of obsolescent Soviet-built tanks.

Israel maintains the right to defend itself under 1701. I said last night that this cease fire will last all of 7 minutes but I am leaning towards 0 minutes. Israel has the cards now and when the Hezzies launch a single missile, the US will shrug it's shoulders and say "Oh well, Lebanon didn't abide by the resolution so Israel do what you have to do."
