Kinky will carry Travis County.
Curious why you think that?....
I'd give Strayhorn the county wide vote over Kinky. She is and Susan Combs were the only two republicans to carry Travis County in the 02 campaign. Are you saying the Tea Sips and the silicon groupies will be the deciding factor?

Good call, Tol. It looks like he tried to sell one to many freeways to the toll road junkies.

I'm not from Texas but why is Perry polling 35% in the home state of our beloved President? Because it is a four-way race, and the DemocRAT candidate is in fourth place.

TAXES,TAXES, TAXES, That's all Austin can think about. They should just rename the state.
What a bunch of yo-yo's we have running. Put them in an appartment and we would have a Texas version of Seinfeld.

Probably several reasons but he's running against a field that includes three strong opponents or at least opponents with some name recognition. Bell the Democrat, Strayhorn the State Comptroller running as an Indy and Kinky Freidman the Musician or whatever running as an Indy.
I think Perry win with a plurality.

I agree with your thinking.
Perry 45%
Strayhorn 23%
Bell 20%
Kinky 12%
But Perry is an 'Aggie' and he will get the 'Aggie vote'.

Perry will have to pick up the vibes of the Right to get my vote... otherwise, it's Kinky for me -- if only just for the halibut.

Warren Oates (even though he's passed away) has been tapped to play Kinky in the movie version of Kinky's crime novel "A Case of Lone Star".

In the for what it's worth column ... visited the Austin-San Antonio area of Texas a year or two ago. Saw a picture of Texas Governor Perry and his wife in a flashy tourist brochure. Reminded me of one of those billboards you see along the road in larger communities of the local TV anchor & anchorette (or vice-versa). Way, way to cutesy.

Well, we Texans can't help that your governor, Taft, has a face like the south end of a north-bound horse.

All the candidates may be nutjobs or incompetent, but Perry's the one I'm mad at.
If either Kinky or Strayhorn were to drop out, which won't happen, Perry is toast. And it would have nothing to do with party politics or George Bush.

"I'm not from Texas but why is Perry polling 35% in the home state of our beloved President?"
Because he's irritated and aggravated and plain old alienated a bunch of us who supported him in the past. It's called incompetence with a likely lot of corruption thrown in.
Issues: inability to get a court-mandated school finance law passed without multiple special sessions, an offensive private land grab called the Trans-Texas Corridor (which even the state Republican Party is against), a so-called property tax cut that is easily wiped out by increases in assessed values and new taxes, and much more.
Perry looks good and sounds good. He's camera friendly and claims to be a Republican. That's about all he's got going for him, as far as I'm concerned.
It has NOTHING to do with the President.

Point is the Texas governor and his wife look like the local H.S. homecoming queen and her (his?) escort.
Anyway ... way to cutesy. Give me Ann Richards any day ... she may be a 'Rat but she's real people.
