Good. I'm glad the authorities aren't letting the terrorists use one of their more common tactics (hiding behind women and children).
How the cops got into her pajamas I'll never know.

""Asian" is standard British usage to refer to folks from Pakistan, India, etc. I don't know what they use for people from Japan, Korea, China, etc.--maybe "Oriental" still?"
Yeah Oriental or Far Eastern. Actually we'd probably call someone from Japan 'Japanese', someone from China 'Chinese' and someone from Korea.....err Chinese again, probably...
"Referring to arabs, pakistanis, persians, etc, as "Asians" is a compromise to avoid saying "muslim"
This is political rectitude run amok. It is annoying the hell out of, inter alia, the Sikh, Hindu and Chinese populations of the UK."
(1) No it isn't a compromise to avoid saying anything, it's an exceptionally common British reference to people eminating from the sub-continent - India, Pakistan, Bangladesh.
(2) The Daily Mail is one of the least PC publications around.
(3) I have never ever seen the term applied to a Persian.
