When will we wake up to the cultural problems in our nation, and forthrightly address them?

I guess the total gun ban in Washington D.C. doesn't work. The only solution is more gun control...

I visited Washington in the 80s. I made the mistake of stopping in the ghetto for a look-see. My father and I got the hell out of there. Its a world different from the official Washington tourists see and its a lot more dangerous today. And the violence has now spilled out to parts of the city previously regarded as "safe."

Yep, just because there's 2,000 laws that don't work doesn't mean that the 2,001st won't.

The tolerance for ghettos, the illicit drug-culture and industry, and the persistence of welfare as a way of life, go a long way to contributing to this issue. Once tolerance stops, so will the problem.

No, it was more dangerous in the late 80's and early 90's when it was known as "Murder Capital" with over 500 murders a year. Now we got the murder rate under 300, which is a vast improvement and certain parts of the city is going through gentrification.

Black police chief Charles H. Ramsey

I wonder if this "black" police chief felt that frequent police patrols in these affluent areas was politically incorrect, as white people shouldn't be more entitled to police protection than black people.

And if so, he'd be correct in theory, except that the correct method of dealing with the inequality would've been to apply for funding to increase police numbers and patrols in the poorer sections of town without decreasing patrols in the more affluent areas.

But I do wonder if that's what happened.

Wasn't it just yesterday that there was a thread on here about the Madison, WI City Council voting to NOT ALLOW GANGS TO LOITER? And, some of my Freeper Brothers and Sisters began to stand-up for their right to Free Assembly.

I'll take my "right to life" provision in the Preamble to the Constitution over their right to assemble in the Bill of Rights.

When my dad was stationed in DC during WW2, he was warned to get off the sidewalk if a group of blacks were approaching him. This has been a problem there for over half a century.

The DC cops are very effective at parking enforcement.
