Didn't catch the Hardball program. I want to know if Brian Williams was already in London before the airline events unfolded this morning.

Stewart : " Somewhere over the Atlantic Ocean, investigators say,
the martyrs planned to simultaneously explode small chemical bombs ..."
Stewart later referred to them as Al Queda operatives and terrorists.

Never mind all that.

Are you trying to ruin a good bashing thread?

:-)

I can think of lots of words to describe the scum who tried this, but "martyr" wouldn't be one of them. 1 posted on 08/10/2006 6:59:04 PM EDT by hanamizu

They intended to martyr themselves. It was a suicide mission, after all.

"Even as they pushed the last Jews into the ovens, the German martyrs prepare to fight the Allies to their death!"

"Even as they beheaded the last Laotian, the martyrs of Pol Pot's army prepared to die at the hands of the Americans!"

I'm sure you would also NOT have problem with those descriptions either!

A martyr is one who submits to death rather than recant his convictions. It is not one who intentionally kills others and seek out death in the process.

The first is martyr, the second is murder.

I am aware of that. But I couldn't get over the use of the word martyr. To me it it is a positive term and refers to one willing to die for one's faith--not willing to murder or kill for one's faith.

Doc,

I think you have it in a nutshell. No US reporter would have used 'martyr' to describe Nazis defending Berlin or kamikaze pilots during WWII.

" But I couldn't get over the use of the word martyr .."

That caught my attention, also.
He also seems to be attributing the term to " investigators." Which I doubt, BTW.

It was to be a martyrdom operation.... I don't have a problem with his wording.

Dog, here in NETX, folks call statements like that, "....a sure sign of bein' eat up with the dumb@$$..."

He should have said: "glorious martyrs" to be consistent with their over all programming.
