Here are questions put to Michael Steele and his answers. This is from his website. He sounds like a RINO. Alas, there is no one else in Maryland to vote for.

Many state and federal districts have had judicial vacancies prolonged due to political posturing in Washington.
Hmmm. Never knew that the feds were holding up state judicial vacancies. Something change recently or is Steele clueless?

Wow. I had only read good things about Steele on FR. I thought he was a conservative.

He sounds like a RINO.To me, he sounded more like a solid conservative who needs the votes of Dims and Indies in Maryland.

Oh, Steele might be a Rino but his opponent in Nov. will definitely be a RAT.

Gee, nothing really new.
How about letting seniors opt out of Medicare and become privately insured, should they so desire.
To: All
he means district and federal circuit court vacancies, as district courts are state based.... Steele is a solid conservative but, running in Maryland, he needs to win the supprot of independents who would have voted for Mccain or Matthias.... he gets in and its a shift to the right from what we have now in that seat and that, in my book, is a win.

Your idea, of allowing seniors some choice with regard to health insurance, was talked about, a while back, by certain Republicans. For example, allowing those qualifying for Medicare to use an actuarial estimate of the cost of Medicare insurance in order to pay for the premiums of qualifying, alternative private insurance; most obviously, the policy they had while they were working. But, privatizing Medicare became way too hot politically. I hope we can soon get back to our agenda.

Mike Steele is solidly pro-life and in favor of fiscal restraint. He tries to couch his answers in such a manner that the Baltimore Pravda can not use them as propaganda against him and he must sound "moderate" if he wants a snowball's chance in Hell at being elected in the Peoples Democratic State of Maryland.
The two Dems fighting for the chance to run against him are ultra-liberal congresscritter Ben Cardin and former NAACP muckety-muck and congresscritter Kweise Mfume. Thus, our choices are a black Republican who may not sound as conservative as we would like or two clowns to the left of our other Senator, Barbara Mikulski.

A conservative cannot win state-wide in Maryland. Be glad we hve a good Republican running for the Senate.

I grew up in Baltimore. I know Mayland is not a land of conservatives and I hope the guy wins but I had a different image of him from his strong support (pre-Bush Bash) on FR

Uh-huh, he sounds like a RINO because he is a RINO. Ehrlich has been busy pandering, and Mr. Steel has been busy trying to hide his RINOness.
I voted for them last time, but Ehrlich and Steele (for the most part) have been huge disappointment.

How about letting seniors opt out of Medicare and become privately insured, should they so desire. You can do that today for Medicare part B. I just signed with UPMC as a PPO and my $88/month "contribution" will go from the gummit to UPMC and they will provide my coverage. It still costs $88/month but that is very reasonable for hospital and doctor costs with very low $25 co-pays. I keep my own doctors and they have all the local hospitals in their plan.

"Of todays sitting senators, I am especially inspired by Senator John McCain, who works above the partisan fray that is too often stifling progress in Washington. Like Senator McCain, I am not afraid of being an independent voice in Congress who calls it like he sees it. I am going to Washington to shake things up, work with both sides of the aisle, and build bridges over party nonsense to achieve results for Marylanders."
I liked several of his answers, but I do not like this answer.
To: GeorgefromGeorgia
I liked several of his answers, but I do not like this answer.McCain is not the favorite around these parts, but he is solidly conservative over his voting life. He rankles us because of his high-profile media abandonments of conservatives, but for the most part, his voting record is solid.
Steele can be elected in Md with solid GOP support and significant Indie support and some Dim support.
A smart GOP will take him over the Dim candidate. A dumb GOP will insist that every Senator be ??? (Can anyone think of a solidly conservative Senator?)

Well, if you hope the guy wins and you know Maryland, then you won't expect him to run as a conservative. Even if he were a near-RINO, that is better than a Democrat winning.

His admiration of McCain is either scary or pandering. IMHO.

No it's not. And I for one am getting sick and tired of the "fear factor" that says, "vote for this guy because he has an "R" after his name". I am calling BS on this.
Ehrlich was elected along with Steele for two reasons. He supported slots and Kathleen Kennedy Townsend was his opponent. Kennedy Townsend was a twit who was abrasive, clueless and silly. She thought that because her middle name was Kennedy, and that she had a "D" after her name, she would win big.
Ehrlich and Steele won, and have now become abrasive, clueless (about who elected them) and pandering-silly.
It's time that people with an "R" after their names are held to minimum standards of the "R" and at least stand for something close to why they were elected in the first place. If the people with an "R" after their name keep getting elected because they are not identified as democrats, yet act like democrats, then what is the point? Not me brother, this slide towards the left has to stop.
