Best weapon for home defense: The Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch.

Oh Lord, bless this thy holy hand grenade, that it might blow thyne enemies to tiny bits, in thy mercy...

How about a Glock 19 or Sig 229, both 9mm?

I don't like Glocks - just don't like the feel and all. I haven't tried a Sig, but I'm not sure it's exactly what I'm looking for. I think I pretty much want the HK P2000SK, I just need to bite the bullet (so to speak) and put it on a credit card. :)

I've had Brownings, Walthers, Berettas and even a Mauser in .380. The Sig is hands down, my favorite. For an averge build person, the Hogue grips make it a dream to hold. Because it's all stainless steel (heavier than alloy or plastic) my wife can handle the recoil. When we're not at home, it's my carry. You don't even know you're carrying it. The P226 9mm is for home or car.

If you get one, I'd be curious to know what you think.

Cheers.

I have gone to visit some yankees and sat in their house sweating bricks. Finally, my husband said, "If I give you five dollars, will that pay for the air conditioner?" They got real embarassed and turned something on and it got very cool. A lot of people up here have brand new homes with new central air systems. Now maybe they don't know how it works, but it's just like the central heat. It gets cold in Baton Rouge, where I'm from, and I don't know anyone who doesn't turn on the heat, but go up North and no one wants to run their air. It's a pet peeve of mine.

I am from MI originally, my parents would turn on the AC if it got above 80.

So... has your family planned for a home invasion?

Yes. In the Doohickey household, home invaders will be greeted by a Smith & Wesson model 686 and as many jacketed hollowpoint .357 magnums as they'd like. Mrs. Doohickey serves backup with a Remington 870 with 00 buck.

>>>>"I wish I had good neighbors"<<<<<

Rule #1 Avoid Homeowners Associations! Basic Tenants agreements are OK but if there is a Committee that has to approve the seed that you use for your lawn and when you must water and mow... you are screwed, if you are limited on colors or materials of the gravel that you use for your driveway you are screwed, the pitch of your roof, type of plants in your landscape, (SCREW IT YOU ARE F'D)

You will never have good neighbors if they are controlled by the association, but you will be surrounded by and have a butt load of Nanny Cops that love telling you how to live your life.

Good neighbors are found and massaged, it is location, location, location.

Like Minds like Rice Crispies seem to gather or coalesce in the middle of the pool or bowl so do good neighbors ( I guess it amounts to a Homeowners Association in the end, just that the rules are the Constitution, Acceptance, Space and a feeling of belonging).

Criticism and accepted behavior and just a live and let live attitude all rolled in to one.

(I have been shamed into mowing my lawn a week earlier than I thought it needed, just because Granny said something to a friend of my Wife’s Husband, I didn’t have to but I like Granny and it was sorta on the schedule, and it made Granny happy and when it comes to digging that hole Granny could field a workforce!)

Just being a Good Neighbor can change a Neighborhood.

"My name is TC and I'm a Smithaholic!"

That's actually an old picture. I've got 9 S&Ws now, plus the King Cobra, a Taurus 85, and a Ruger Blackhawk from my youth.

A full house!

I have a bunch of cheap ass pistols (Mexican) because they look real old, three fine Ruger 22's, one "take me serious" pump 12GA, my on;y other Remington is a single shot 22 that I have had since I was 9, it was (as far as I know) sold by Sears and originally cost $13.00.

I traded a 22 semi for a dieing Horse when I was 9, I loved that Horse for the entire 3 weeks she was mine. Dad got me a single shot 22 and put me in charge of breaking the little Welsh Pony for my sisters... Dad taught me a couple of lessons #1 was not to get too attached to the livestock, and #2 Try again next yeart
