That was about $2-1/2 mil in cars. And next to the sports cars was the guy's wife's Rolls Royce Phantom (another $500k).
Geez, I could have spelled that better blind drunk. sorry.
cuty = city. Ugh.
Your post is just about the funniest I've ever seen on FR!
A standard personal auto policy usually would not cover it
if it was a "speed contest" (race).
That makes me sad! I hate to see those beautiful cars wrecked.
We got the "performance package" because we knew we would be driving from Seattle to South Dakota a lot (then my wife got a job with Alaska Airlines and ended that). Ours is a 2001 with 115,000 miles on it. I've replaced a timing belt at 100k and had to spend $185 to fix the radio. Other than that, the car has been perfect.
My wife absolutely loves that car.
I really need to change the plugs before they become one with the heads though. I think 115k is pushing it.
I hate it when that happens.
:-)
West Side Highway is a somewhat straight road where the kid crashed. And yeah, the engine did travel that far -- it flew for a bit and then bounced. The cops were amazed.
I'm a big believer in speed laws.
I owned a 190 mph sports bike that I've had over 100 probrably 100 times. If you were doing 100 on an interstate, it felt like you were going 50 in your car. Now anything over 140 always felt very fast!
AFAIK, 200+ MPH requires something like 600 HP or more. There are companies that can squeeze that much out of a Volkswagen V6.

Very impressive!
100 MPH is still a high rate of speed. And it really proves nothing except the ability to successfully shift through the gears and push down on the gas.
(Go Israel, Go! Slap 'Em Down Hezbullies.)
"A man has got to know his limitations"...Dirty Harry.
Oh, I beleive they exist, too. I just wish jackasses would realize that the left lane is NOT a travel lane, it's a passing lane. Slower traffic keep right
I agree, unless he was taking a corner at that speed or hit a bad bump going into a curve.
I had a go kart up to around 70 (I think the scale speed is greater); my problem was going into the turns and scrubbing the sh%$^& out of the tires due to my understeering.
Wet was my only fear with fast RWD cars. I spun a Vette once in light rain so fast it rattled me for a few months. The slightest rain, I would feather the gas pedal into a turn.
Agreed, 100 mph is nothing. Been 120 in a 67 Camaro, 120 on motorcycle, 110 in a Taurus wagon, 120 in a maxima, 130 in a 540i BWM, 135 in a 96 Z-28, 140 in a Targa--get the idea. And none of these were the type of roads you would call good. The guy obviously doesn't know how to drive a car at a 120 that is as stable as most cars at 60. I wish I was there to show him how.
What's the skill set required for driving that fast on a public road in that kind of car? A stray pebble can damage the car. Highway litter, like a truck retread or something chunk of muffler, can cause you to turn and lose control.
The guy took a chance and he lost.
