Aha - TOTALLY my bad. When he said have you never driven over the legal limit, I thought he was referring to the speed limit. Which made sense to me since he was saying that pretty much everyone had done it. So yes, I admitted driving over the speed limit, but I have not driven drunk. And yeah, my line about the severity of the difference makes no sense without that little piece of info! I must say, I disagree with Lenin when he says that so few people have never driven drunk before. I don't think it's that uncommon...
Isn't post 111 your's?
Re: #141 - got it.
Serious counseling to confront the roots of his anti-semitism and to overcome it ... is in order. If he is truly sorry, meaning he wants to change.
Someone on TV last night, said that if alcohol was the great "truth serum" people claim it is, then all we need do before interrogating the Prisoners at Gitmo, is to get them drunk!
I think there's a lot of truth to that statement..:)

At the risk of being flamed, I'm going to make some comments on this issue. I really don't care for Mel Gibson, haven't seen his "Christ" movie, and don't care if HE is antisemitic or not. For the record, I am a Christian who is not antisemitic I am not defending Mel, but I think what is going on is crazy.
What he did is between him and the authorities who are charging him. What he said is between him and the man (or men) he said it to. What he believes is between him and GOD.
Mel Gibson being antisemitic does not physically affect anything in the world. Mel Gibson NOT being antisemitic has the same effect. The press is having a field day with this because he is a professed Christian and this gives them the forum to tear down all Christians. It also deflects attention from the real antisemites at war with Israel. These are their motives. If they were really worried about antisemitism in US public figures, they would have made big deals about Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and even Hillary Clinton's alleged private Jewish statements. They did not make a fuss over these people because they fit the liberal media mold and are thus given cover.
All I want to know is, why isn't the media against the dangerous antisemitic terrorist groups in the middle east while they are engaged in a HOT WAR with Israel (not words by a drunk man who really didn't hurt anyone but himself)? You would think Mel is worse than Osama, who killed thousands of innocent people or Hezbolla who fire rockets at Jewish people as we speak.
Furthermore, the press defends burning the US Flag as free speech, but Mel saying controversial antisemitic rantings is not entitled to free speech. What about what Farrakhan says? Oh that's OK, he's free to have a controversial opinion because he's liberal (and dare I say Muslim). We need to put these things all in perspective and place our attention and energy where it matters, that being fighting radical Muslim intolerance and terrorism.
Okay, you took the words right out of my mouth. Well said!!!
I feel exactly the same way.
Good for you. I've been through my rough patches too. I can remember saying and doing things that I'm not proud of. I sincerely regret that part of my life too.
thanks for the ping...God knows we all have a darkside and I think Mel's was just given a voice through the alcohol. It wasn't the real him talking that night.
Hi Fabian
Yes he would be, if he knew it wasn't in his heart.
He may be a Christian, but he is NOT a "CONSERVATIVE"!
Thank you...that was a nice post.
Clintons apology was not honest. He did not really see the horror of what he did. I believe MEl did. There is a difference. Also, how a person lives his life tells alot about whether their apology is sincere.
Another good point. But still it was bad. I remember once when I was young, I had a Japanese American friend and she was bugging me and out of my mouth popped..."yellow jap" or something like that! I was as shocked as she was. It must have shocked me or something in a movie and got into my subconscious. I believe that is what happened to Mel. HE loved his Dad, and probably the dark side of him got into him too!
THanks
Scripture says we're not fighting against flesh and blood, but against spiritual powers and principalities that for now have been allowed by God to have this earth. Satan took Jesus and showed Him all the kingdoms of the earth, and said, "All this has been given to me..." Jesus did not dispute his rulership of the here and now.
Lucifer and the third of the angels had been kicked out of heaven for rejecting God. That "third" is still doing damage here today. Like a terrorist, Satan only wants to kill and murder and be mean. The more you do positively for the Lord, the more attack you get, but he goes after everyone. Liberals and terrorists are not our ultimate enemy, but it is the one who is feeding them their evil ideas, who is deceiving them and filling them with their wickedness.
The only way we are truly protected is by relying fully upon God to protect us. Sometimes though, God allows these attacks, because He knows He can use it for a greater purpose ultimately.
I see this as a demonic attack to try to demean Mel so that people won't see his highly accurate movie about Christ's death. It's gut-wrenching, not mamby pamby. It's fact-filled. But now there will be those who are gullible enough to let this incident keep them from seeing that movie, and Satan will have won. At least those few, but one by one, he tries to keep everyone from hearing the truth that they are forgiven by God because the Messiah has paid the atonement price for the world on the cross, and that He is offering mercy and reconciliation with us, if we will only repent and believe in Jesus.
Thank you. As days go by I'm becoming more and more convinced of this line of thought.
Well then, we're going to have to see about Mel, won't we? So far, an apology issued by a publicist after his first apology fell flat doesn't cut it. If he makes an honest attempt to reform, that would be a good thing. But an apology alone isn't sufficient. Just like it wasn't for Clinton.
I repeat...are you exempt? All you did was rail back at me, but you didn't answer?
Sinless? Then cast stones. If not, hush.
