Mr. Buchanan's obvious, bitter hatred of Israel and Jews has led him into a fit of editorial distemper. The man has become a despicable travesty, losing whatever respect as a commentator he may have once had.

The principle of proportionality does NOT mean you gotta get as many of your folks killed off as you kill off the other guy.

Proportionality means that the harm you inflict must be at least commensurate with the good that you're trying to achieve.
In that Israel if fighting to survive, for its existence, to prevent some millions of Jews from being murdered by Muslims, that seems commensurate to a whole bunch more than 600 lives, many of whom actually are illegal, immoral combatants.
