Just when you think the left can't get any dumber, they do! How about initiating a Happy Hour for the little ones at day care?

Daddy, hold muh beer and watch me jump off the roof with an umbrella! What a load of hogwash.

Hey this is the way they do it in the rest of the civilized world, because wine is not EVIL

CHILDREN from the age of five should be encouraged to drink wine smoke pot at home to prevent the toll of alcohol drug abuse in later life, one of the country's leading experts on the problem has told Scotland on Sunday.

Maybe just a little dilluted heroin would do the trick.

Great plan. Give them a few puffs off your joint, too. This sure worked for the kids of Hollywood stars who started hitting mom and pop's stash at the age of 7 because the parents were only home often enough to refill the whiskey flask and nickel bag.
To: wagglebee
Actually when I was 5, every once in a while my parents would give me a SIP of their wine.
I think that's why I CAN'T stand drinking wine now.

That sounds like the NAMBLA theory of child development.
I have heard advice to rub a teething babies gums with whiskey to sooth it. I don't know if that would give them a "taste" for it in a bad way or not.

We need to give them that idea. It'll make perfect sense....... to them.

How does that German proverb go? "What a little Hansel has not learned, grown-up Hans will not know?" Actually, a reasonable idea: in the wine-consuming [frequently called "Mediterranean"] cultures wine is an article of food, children are introduced to it early, but the general "cultural framework" keeps the incidence of alcoholism [and even of drunkenness] low. Jack Law would need to address the transplantation of this "cultural framework" as well.

My 12 year old daughter has had an occasional small glass of beer or wine with me since she was 4 or 5. My dad did the same with me. It's up to each family to decide these things.

I think the real point here is that the study is garbage. It's not a horrible sin to give a kid a sip of alcohol but it's not something that should be seen as a potential preventative remedy for alcoholism later in life.

Age five is too young, granted ... however, I don't have a problem with a nine or ten year old having a small glass of wine at a family meal. I spent some time in Europe as twenty year old and was impressed with the maturity Europeans my age displayed towards various spirits, such as brandy, port wines, etc.. They grew up with it as part of their everyday life and approached it in moderation ... it was no big deal.
