Birth of a Nation was great cinema, but a bigoted piece nonetheless.
Mel needs to
(a) be accountable for his actions.
(b) sober up.
(c) make restitution to those he has hurt.
If the report is true, then Gibson's behavior was boorish and deplorable. I'm not saying he should not be judged. I'm saying that I am in no position to do the judging.
Jhn 8:7 He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
If you have lived a life free of sin, then by all means, judge away. As far as I'm concerned, judgement is God's job, not mine.
Mel looks like he has been taking some bad acid. Maybe he was dosed with a new an improved version of orange sunshine.

Most intelligent post so far...
Well, he may have made a ton from DVD sales. That money might not be included in the worldwide gross that you cite. That's just a guess, though, as I'm no expert on Hollywood accounting.
Fake but accurate?
There's a difference between holding a person accountable and judging them. And the way you're using that Scripture means that we can't say that Mother Theresa is better than Osama Bin Laden. How are we to "judge" evil if we can't "judge"?
Well that's really disappointing. Note to self: Never confer an ounce of respect for any actor or actress.
I agree. I don't think this story is the whole truth and nothing but the truth. That's my gut feeling. Having said that, see post #402.

Read the entire book of John, and you'll understand the context of the Scripture. I'm not going to offer a Bible lesson on this thread. Holding a person accountable for their behavior is different than judging them. I never said he shouldn't be held accountable, and he will be "judged" by a court official during his criminal proceeding. That type of "judging" is different than my use of the word "judge" in my original post. I stated that "I'm not going to judge the man." I stand by my comment. I can certainly say that his behavior was unbecoming of any person, without passing "judgement" upon Mel Gibson, the person.
Do you find this odd?
"the contents seem to be similar"
Strange way to put it.
I still maintain that one shouldn't trust explosive reports coming out of a previously-unknown website - otherwise we all would be trusting DEBKA around here on military matters. And certainly the pump was primed for many to come out strong against Mel Gibson, given the nature of his recent work.
Well, he's got lots of money, and lots of skills. It will be interesting to see if and how he works towards repentance.
Agreed. I think a lot of the problem comes from trying to be PC. We ARE to judge actions and words but not judge a persons salvation.
It's been confirmed..there's another thread about it. I haven't seen anyone talk about the point of all this. All the people who accused Gibson of his anti-semetic portrayal of Jews in THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST get to sit back and say, "I TOLD YOU SO." As a Jew, and as someone who defended Gibson, I feel a bit .... stupid.
Dang it!
I sure didn't want to believe it to be true, double dang it!

The following is the complete text of Mel Gibson's statement regarding his arrest for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol:
"After drinking alcohol on Thursday night, I did a number of things that were very wrong and for which I am ashamed. I drove a car when I should not have, and was stopped by the L.A. County sheriffs. The arresting officer was just doing his job and I feel fortunate that I was apprehended before I caused injury to any other person.
"I acted like a person completely out of control when I was arrested, and said things that I do not believe to be true and which are despicable. I am deeply ashamed of everything I said.
"Also, I take this opportunity to apologize to the deputies involved for my belligerent behavior. They have always been there for me in my community and indeed probably saved me from myself. I disgraced myself and my family with my behavior and for that I am truly sorry.
"I have battled the disease of alcoholism for all of my adult life and profoundly regret my horrific relapse. I apologize for any behavior unbecoming of me in my inebriated state and have already taken necessary steps to ensure my return to health."
I still maintain that one shouldn't trust explosive reports coming out of a previously-unknown website -
I just thought of his dad and it didn't seem too far-fetched to me that he would speak like that.

Yes it will.
