In case you don't know much about him:

Orson Scott Card is one of the best Sci-Fi writers. His Ender's series are enormously popular and translated to many languages. His websites attract attention of readers from all over the world.

Since 9/11 he wrote many political essays. He is a conservative democrat of Zell Miller type (there are still few left) who is upset with hijacking of his party by the Left. His articles are more inline with the FreeRepublic spirit than with his own political website: http://www.ornery.org/index.html  that is heavily populated by American- and other Leftists who are delightfully annoyed by Mr. Card's conservatism. He does not post on that site and its moderated by somebody else.

Moral Clarity BUMP !

This ping list is not author-specific for articles I'd like to share. Some for the perfect moral clarity, some for provocative thoughts; or simply interesting articles I'd hate to miss myself. (I don't have to agree with the author all 100% to feel the need to share an article.) I will try not to abuse the ping list and not to annoy you too much, but on some days there is more of the good stuff that is worthy of attention. This is the point we need to make over and over.

Supposedly, Lebanon is a democracy. The people of Lebanon are responsible for allowing Hezbollah to bomb Israel.

They are the ones who allow terrorists in their government.

They have not protested the machinations of Hezbollah - purposeful bombing of civilians without warning, tunnels and fortifications along the border, hateful rhetoric against Israel and the US, etc. - nearly as loudly as they now protest Israel's warning them of incoming bombs.

They've had years to clean up the corruption and weakness of their government. They could and should help stop Hezbollah, now.

Since Hezbollah hides among civilians, there is no way Israel can defend itself except by making attacks where civilians are bound to be hurt or killed. This is not a matter that is Israel's to choose.

It's a simple sentence that presents a simple, yet clear view of civilian deaths on the Lebanese side. MSM and the UN know this, but absolutely refuse to acknowledge it. That should give you some idea about their feelings on Israel and Jews in general.

Chris Matthews on Imus this morning spent about 10 minutes saying how Bush didn't / doesn't know anything, if only we had elected Kerry. Had to watch out of morbid curiosity, then went on ignoring him as I have the past few years or so.

Of course, most readers will recoil when I compare Bush to Winston Churchill.

GWB became Winston Churchill on 9/11/01 at least in this one thing.

I was a resident at Sloan-Kettering when the Shah was getting radiation treatment there (God, that was a long time ago).

Every night, they would bring him through a tunnel from New York Hospital across the street (NYH had luxury suites, we didn't).

There was a mob out on the street 24/7 chanting "Death to the Shah". They blocked the main entrance, NYPD was under orders to leave them alone. We all used the back door.

It's amazing that those are the people who are running Iran today.

GWB became Winston Churchill on 9/11/01 at least in this one thing.

I like to pretend that all the wacko stuff that comes out of the White House and is signed off by Congress is simply the choosing of the lesser of two evils - I'll appease these people so I can continue fighting the real enemy. But like always, appeasement results in one thing: wanting more. If you have to give up virtually nothing to get what you want, you still have all those resources you were going to use to whine for more.

The truth of foreign policy is also the truth of domestic policy.

The only thing that has ever brought concessions from Israel's enemies is victory in war. The negotiating table has never brought Israel even a moment's peace. The opposite is true -- the more they gave in, the more their enemies came to believe in Israel's weakness and the more Israeli civilians they killed.

OSC carries that through discussing past American Presidents who also decided to "talk peace" -- we all lost. We certainly tried. All appeasement has done is emboldened not only terrorists abroad -- but also those domestic terrorists within the US including those numbering among many "liberals". I've seen the span of years: OSC is right.

Bring it On, Baby.
