If the president were at 80% in the polls, and European opinion were firmly behind him every step of the way, and had read US pacifists and leftists the riot act at maximum volume for the last 3 years, then sure the US could blow down the Iranian house of cards in about two months. Militarily, no problem at all.

But politically it is impossible, because US leftists and demagogues in Europe have spent the last 3 years throwing every bucket of crap they could find on the only people in the world ready willing and able to go fight and die to protect them from such nutjobs. And we are too weak to do it again as a result, as well as not remotely in the mode. When riots break out in France, we cheer - that's how likely the US right is to go another mile for European security.

So they can do it themselves. We'll watch and carp and call them names. When the whole thing blows up because their stupid pacifist crap doesn't remotely work in the real world, we'll still be standing here saying I told you so. No, the world does not stop after Iran and its terrorist buddies set off a nuke. Politics doesn't stop either. But pacifist demagogues will see their power go to zero, and somebody is going to say they are sorry and they blew it - or get hung from the nearest lampost.

Yes well it was a global problem and we proposed solutions to it that would actually work, but the Europeans objected to them and wanted instead to give this Hitler wannabee free stuff and talk for a few years while he gets his centrifuge arrays set up. So they can fix it, thank you very much. The US will agree to a few pro forma sanctions if the EU asks for it. And we will carp a lot. It is our contribution to the war effort. Yours was so useful on Iraq, I'm sure you will find ours priceless.

If you ask very nicely - no, if you say you were wrong and you blew it and you are sorry, and work as hard as you can for 2-3 years running to build up the US right politically, and kiss Bush's boots, then maybe we will help with a little logistical support and maybe, if you really really beg, some air support - when you send your own ground forces to Teheran.

Since that isn't going to happen, Iran is going to get nukes and use them, and we'll get paid by saying "I told you so" and running the spasm of desparate action that follows, after the west realizes it is now locked in a generational nuclear terror war and pacifists can't do a thing to save them.

But so far, the left and the Europeans haven't admitted we are right. So they can pound sand, we won't lift a finger.

Lots of things that cannot be allowed have happened. Read a little in history and you will find it largely consists of the things that could not be allowed to happen, that happened anyway.

The European pacifist demagogues still haven't awakened to the true horror of their political position. I'm not talking about their security one, about the actual innocent lives they've done all in their power to snuff out and all the avoidable trouble they've brought upon the world. No, I'm talking about the day when this becomes obvious to those of the meanest capacities, instead of only being understood by a longsighted few on the American right.

They are wrong about the single most important political question of the day. They think they are being politically smart listening to domestic opinion instead of leading, and thus dragging their feet at every step. They've cashed that for electoral advantage and popularity and jobs at Gazprom and cold hard cash from Saddam's coffers. Not to mention prestige and influence, the thrill of forcing the Americans to stop and listen. Gosh such heady stuff. And the warm inner glow of moral superiority! Wow, stronger than heroin. They just glow with it. Deliriously happy with themselves.

But it won't work, Iran and the nutjobs aren't playing. They are pushing instead, and the only workable policy in the matter is owned by the hawks. Whom the aforementioned pacifists and demagogues have been inundating in crap for years now, until they are hoarse from the screeching.

What a long way it is to there from here. Cause, see, no workable policy, means city after city just burns to ash. You get there soon or you get there late, but until you get there, hell reigns on earth.

And when you get there, we will already have the whole place staked out, and we will be screaming "I told you so" to beat the band. And the populace? Those deluded innocents you've been leading around by the noise, promising puppies and no exertion and peace and harmony and all the ecstasy they can handle at all-night raves? They will be pulling the skin from your bones and calling it justice.

In a letter to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has chastized the German leadership for failure to reinstate "the enlightened anti-Zionist policies of the great Adolf Hitler." "Hitler was blocked from fulfilling the dream of a Jew-free world by the untimely interference of the U.S. imperialist forces who invaded his country," wrote Ahmadinejad. "But he was headed in the right direction and made a good start. Why have you not taken steps to resume his great work?"

This man is a fool. From what I recall, Hitler considered Arabs and Persians to be the closest related to Jews. If Hitler had completed all of his genocidal dreams, it would not have looked so good for them either.

Tony Blair understands.

He understood on Iraq, all due credit for that. But no, he has not understood on Iran, and he has pushed for diplomatic games and wasting time for two years now. I've met some of the people leading the negotiations for Britain, and they know what the Iranians are trying to do and do not trust them. But they still think it is all about trying to get a better price, and can't wrap their minds around the concept "not for sale". They do not understand the need to use force against Iran. Their minds shut down at the cost, and they think clever talk must be able to find a better way. In the end, they fool themselves with their own imaginary brilliance and ignore what the Iranians are getting away with. And will not stop them.

Yeah, and I told you that in my eyes this is unlikely to happen. I don't like it and I will use my next-to-none political influence to prevent it but I´won't resort to dreaming or lying to myself.

Besides, as I and wolf explained, apart from the fact that 2 panzer divisions can't teleport to Iran, they would probably not be enough. You are seriously underestimating Iran's military capabilities and Iran's determination and devotion. You might want to inform yourself about the Iraq-Iran war to get an impression of their determination. The coming war in Iran will make those itsy bitsy conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan, of the last 5 years look like a walk in the park. At least Europe will hopefully be smart enough to avoid trying to democratize Iran, should it really invade.
