In 2005, there were approximately 48,000 Jews in Spain, out of a population of over 40.3 Million. That's 0.12% of the total Spanish population (
Source). Of course there used to be many more, but they were forced out, beginning in the 15th century. Nonetheless, this pattern has become more prevalent among the leftist elites of Europe in recent years: anti-Semitism without Jews.

Yes, Franco, although he is constantly demonized by the Communist Left and hated by most Jews who have sucked up the propaganda, protected the Jews and other refugees in Spain. Those who remained in France were shipped to the death camps by the ever helpful French. Those who managed to get over the Pyranees were protected by Franco. Jews, Gypsies, Spain was filled with refugees who survived.
He kept Spain out of the war, unlike Mussolini in Italy. On balance, he did Europe and European civilization a great favor. He has been vilified ever since.

The reason is simple - The Left has no constant moral code whatsoever other than constantly changing list of means to keep a hold on power.
