Israel is not asking for the U.S to fight for them. Israel is content for America to sit on the sidelines while Israel finishes off Hezbollah. Pat Buchanan seems to have forgotten Hezbollah's enemy is America as well Israel and they have murdered scores of Americans, starting with our CIA station chief in Beirut and ending with an American Navy SEAL thrown out of the cockpit of a plane. That was over 20 years ago. President Bush hasn't forgotten their massacre of 241 Marines either. America is not lifting a finger to save Hezbollah because it is our mortal enemy and let's be glad Israel is doing the job for us without our having to risk the life of a single American soldier. Surely an isolationist like Buchanan should be the first to acknowledge that's the best of all worlds - if he wasn't so caught up in blaming Israel first and not taking the time to look at the big picture.

What Israel is up to was described by its army chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Dan Halutz, when he threatened to "turn back the clock in Lebanon 20 years." KPoor Lebanon. 20 years removed from The Stone Age and it's back to square one.
