Who said his home country was taking its time? Such an operation takes planning and just maybe there should be some consideration for the safety of the rescuers, ya' think? And yes, I'd be scared, but I wouldn't be looking for anybody to blame for my situation except the hezzies and my own stupid self for going there in the first place.
The State Dept. isn't a taxi service and, instead of bitching, I'd be grateful for any help I could get.
The State Dept. is not being unresponsive. The rescuers are there, moving people to Cyprus. The idea is caution. Getting the rescuers and the rescuees killed helps nobody.
You all should have taken it on yourselves to get the information before you went there or just not gone. Why don't you try taking some responsibility for your own plight? You could have registered there upon arrival or just not gone. Have you considered more gratitude and less whining?

I think your whole tirade is a scam. Nobody in the situation you claim to be in has this much opportunity to be posting, what with dodging all those evil israeli bombs and all. What you're doing is trying to turn this dialogue into yet another attack on the Israelis.

Why does Israel have to stop? If Lebanon can't and Syria and Iran won't stop the hezzies, then Israel should keep firing until the hezzie targets are obliterated. Meanwhile, foreigners are getting out in a safe and orderly manner.

If the Palestinians attacked Israel, and you wanted to get out of Israel, why would it be Israel's fault if you couldn't get out?

What some are missing is that the particular facts of this current "crisis" in the ME present the U.S. and Israeli bashers a unique opportunity to bash both countries with the same broad brush if they pose as a victim/trapped American.
One should take note that the supposed "victim" is the person who opened the thread and, for somebody trapped and desperate to escape with his life, he's found time to post and post and post on and on about this, and guess who he is bashing? Most of the "vacationers" are American citizens that have relatives in Lebanon. Lebanon is a beautiful and exciting city. It was very westernized before the Ayatollah Khomeni returned from exile to Iran and began the suicide bombings ..... while the militant group called Hezbollah grew up to perform the new "suicide bombings. We can thank Jimmy Carter for this weird unrest in the middle east, for suicide bombings, for turmoil. IIRC, rebel_yell2 made it clear when this started - over a week ago now, that they were in Lebanon attending a IMF Conference. Also, they did in fact do exactly as you and your supporters have suggested, ask for help and suggestions from fellow FReeper/FRiends.
Please try to understand after a week of this, they are likely in a very fragile state, and I fail to see any comments which can be read as anti-Israel, or US, quite the opposite if you've followed this from the beginning.

I don't see how the media has been any faster to the whining about slow government response than some on this board. When posters tout the score of the French getting people out vs. the smaller number of Americans evacuated while overlooking the fact that the French hand out passports like bubble-gum and don't care who boards what, there're bound to already be of the entitlement mentality. When their only concern is "me, me, me" and how much they can criticize the U.S. and Israel, they so outclass the media in their shallowness and misinformation that they become not credible.
