OK, from what you say, I can see that military usage is quite different from not only the dictionary, but also from the usage of Physics, the basic science involved. SNAFU, I guess.

Yep, that's about it. The missile I worked on the most wasn't even a rocket but a ramjet. (The old TALOS system.) Try explaining that one sometime... ;-)

The missile I worked on the most wasn't even a rocket but a ramjetYeah, like the old German V1 of WWII. Waasn't that built by Bendix out at Mishawaka, Indiana?
That missile raises the issue of cruise missiles -- they are certainly not ballistic, nor artillery rockets. Closest to a drone A/C, I guess.

Which is what makes the rocket the perfect coward's weapon. You can inflict damage without having to worry about being held responsible for your behavior. One could argue that that is the point of any long-range weapon from a slingshot to a cruise missile or bigger...does that make us cowards when we launch missiles from far beyond any possible hope of retaliation from their inferior forces or does it make us sensible?

Logic 101A:
"All A's are B's" does not mean that "All B's are A's".
To: ArmstedFragg
An elegant axiom but it fails to address the question.
