"UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Marie Guehenno"
Nice surname, almost Gehenna. But B. L. Zebub instead of Jean-Marie would be even better.

"When is the recess appointment over?"
When the presidency is. It is renewable as a recess appointment, IIRC.

Yipes, I wasn't aware of that. Exactly whose military forces do they have in mind? UN Peacekeepers?"
Yes. Here's some essential background information for all.
British Mandate for Palestine (WW I to 1948)
And opinions haven't changed much since then, except that now many of them are comparing the wars against Israel with terrorist attacks by the IRA as an argument for "restraint" against Israel.

Everyone who reads that should remember it, although I'll be keeping the link. All of the other members of the Security Council (including your favorite Euro-identity country) are inexplicably and compulsively against the people of Israel.Although not a member of the security council, the Vatican is against Israel as well...

The nice thing about being a journalist is that you can imply that there was a
vote and a veto
when nothing of the sort happened.

So now UN vehicles will be used to move Hezbulla infrastructure out of the danger zone? Two birds with one stone. The American military should be so lucky.

These ba$stard unleashed the dogs of war, and now they are crying and asking "Daddy United Nations" to call the dogs off.
Excuse my French, but tough $hit.
You Muslims did this to yourselves, and now that Israel is making you pay for it, you cry like a sissy.
Tell you what - all you Islamic murderers leave Israel the hell alone. Don't mess with her borders, her soldiers, her civilians, or her soverignty.
Got that?

How does anyone think John Kerry's UN ambassador would have voted? Al Gore's? Bill Clinton's?I must say, that thought has been on my mind the past two days.
I wonder how Clinton and Gore sleep at night, with the events of the past two weeks.
As a matter of fact, I hope they don't, because they don't deserve to.
To: familyop
Well, let their military forces attempt to "occupy Israel to restrain it."

The recess appointment was made while Congress was in recess, after Bolton's nomination was filibustered. I believe it's good until the next Congress is seated in '07. Then he would have to be confirmed or else leave the job. I don't understand how a President could continually recess appoint someone so that they stay in office until the President leaves office. I don't believe it's possible. Think about it.

and here we are impotent. By your own choice, Lebanon. It's what happens when you tolerate terrorists in your own land. What goes around comes around.

Maybe that's because it's where they get much of their oil.
They call it, "being practical". They are very good at that.

And BTW, I've looked around the western European press over the past few days. British, French, Italian and Norwegian media (including the most conservative of them) have been insinuating that military forces should occupy Israel to restrain it. If we aren't in WWIII yet (and I believe we are), that would start it for sure.
