Nothing new .
Way back in 1968 they designed a self cooling soda can. Pulling the pop top released one ounce of freon and cooled the can almost immediatly.
It was rejected. one less ounce of Soda was too much to do without.
No need to insulate the ground, as the earth is a dynamite heat sink.
The earth below two to six feet is generally about at the average annual air temperature year-round. In some areas this will provide dandy cooling, but not in the places you need it most, such as AZ and FL. Central FL, for instance, where I'm at, the ground temperature is around 72F. One needs at least 60F for effective cooling, and frankly that's a little difficult. Need closer to 50F for effective humidity removal.
The system also requires a pretty extensive installation of pipes and heat exchangers, not to mention still requiring electricity to run the pumps and fans. Auxiliary heating or cooling is still needed when the system doesn't provide adequate heat or cooling.
But it's a highly energy-efficient climate control system.
