Yes, and David Bowie did a fine cover of that song on "Pin Ups". RIP Syd. I will be listening to some Floyd tonite.
It was "Shine on you crazy Diamond" off that album.
Shine on you Crazy Diamond
No I know the origins of Comfortably Numb. I heard Waters interviewed once. He had been on tour and was coming down with a bad cold or the flu. Some doctor gave him a shot and said that it would clear up his symptoms and he'd feel great. Instead it totally zoned him out and he said that trying to play that concert was the worst experience of his life. So he wrote a song about. It's still one of my all time favorites.
Many of the songs and albums tangentially dealt with Syd, especially those by Waters. For example, DARK SIDE OF THE MOON had a lot of inferences to insanity within it.
It was (I guess) very traumatic and disturbing for them to watch their friend slowly go insane.
"I heard Waters interviewed once. He had been on tour and was coming down with a bad cold or the flu."
It seems it was Crazy Diamond. I stand, (comfortably numb), corrected. :)
yeah it's coming back to me now
Its my opinion that the whole entire album was written as an examination of the mind, and the behavior of the insane.
Always liked "Interstellar Overdrive" and "The Gnome".
Indeed
The two pictures on post 38 make it clear...and a bit sad.
It probably also had much to do with guilt over how shoddily the band treated Syd just before they booted him from the band.
Gilmour has told how, during the short period in which both he and Syd were in the band at the same time, the bus hired to carry them all to a gig was going to pick up Syd last. After the other four were loaded, one of them asked "Should we go pick up Syd?" Someone answered "No." And they played without him.
That was how he got kicked out of Pink Floyd.
Um, I wish you were here, too, Laz, but can we keep this private?
David Gilmour's son went to school with mine here in the UK.
Met him at the parent's day. Not a flashy guy.
All I know is that during my wild and crazy frat days, on the last day of finals, we would get 'well lubricated' from the keg and put on "The Wall". Every semester. We had it on Betamax and had one machine that could run it. I miss college! ;^)
By the way, which one is Pink?
A good move by the band.
Barrett's life is a sad and cautionary tale about drug abuse. I heard an interview with David Gilmour about his meeting with Barrett sometime in the 70s. Apparently Barrett just stared straight ahead as his cigarette burnt down to his fingers... Just like in "The Wall."
Genre: Pink Floyd

Mr G worked with them one time. David Gilmore remains the nicest of all the "big" names he has ever worked with.
