2,500 ACORN Members March to Raise the Minimum Wage

"Let's move it forward," Sen. Clinton told ACORN members on Monday morning.

This morning, ACORN members took part in the final plenary session of the 2006 ACORN National Convention, which was highlighted with a speech by Sen. Hillary Clinton, who credited ACORN members with their fight for social justice all over the nation.

“I want to thank you for putting these issues on the agenda in so many states,” she told ACORN members. She especially acknowledged their fight to raise the minimum wage in Ohio and other states and declared that there should be “no raises for Congress until Congress raises the minimum wage.”

After the plenary, ACORN members marched down High Street to the Ohio State Capitol, where they held a Rally to Raise the Minimum Wage. Click here to read more details on the Convention Blog.

Since Saturday, ACORN members from around the country have been in Columbus, Ohio to learn about national campaigns for better wages, fair immigration reform, Katrina recovery and stronger communities. The plenary sessions on July 9th and 10th were webcast live via www.acorn.org, and the archives from the Convention will be available online.
